So he said,“ Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” And Saul offered up the burnt offering.

The king went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. (niv)

there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. (niv)

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. (niv)

To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. (niv)

I thought,‘ Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”“ You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said.“ You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But whoever sacrifices a bull is like one who kills a person, and whoever offers a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever makes a grain offering is like one who presents pig’s blood, and whoever burns memorial incense is like one who worships an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and they delight in their abominations; (niv)

The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable— how much more so when brought with evil intent! (niv)

Do not say,“ I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you. (niv)
