既廢了掃羅，就選立大衛作他們的王，又為他作見證說：『我尋得耶西的兒子大衛，他是合我心意的人，凡事要遵行我的旨意。』

撒母耳對他說：「如此，今日耶和華使以色列國與你斷絕，將這國賜與比你更好的人。

當時，你在異象中曉諭你的聖民，說：我已把救助之力加在那有能者的身上；我高舉那從民中所揀選的。我尋得我的僕人大衛，用我的聖膏膏他。我的手必使他堅立；我的膀臂也必堅固他。仇敵必不勒索他；凶惡之子也不苦害他。我要在他面前打碎他的敵人，擊殺那恨他的人。只是我的信實和我的慈愛要與他同在；因我的名，他的角必被高舉。我要使他的左手伸到海上，右手伸到河上。他要稱呼我說：你是我的父，是我的神，是拯救我的磐石。我也要立他為長子，為世上最高的君王。我要為他存留我的慈愛，直到永遠；我與他立的約必要堅定。我也要使他的後裔存到永遠，使他的寶座如天之久。倘若他的子孫離棄我的律法，不照我的典章行，背棄我的律例，不遵守我的誡命，我就要用杖責罰他們的過犯，用鞭責罰他們的罪孽。只是我必不將我的慈愛全然收回，也必不叫我的信實廢棄。我必不背棄我的約，也不改變我口中所出的。我一次指着自己的聖潔起誓：我決不向大衛說謊！他的後裔要存到永遠；他的寶座在我面前如日之恆一般，又如月亮永遠堅立，如天上確實的見證。（細拉）

因此，耶和華－以色列的神說：『我曾說，你和你父家必永遠行在我面前；現在我卻說，決不容你們這樣行。因為尊重我的，我必重看他；藐視我的，他必被輕視。

「你回去告訴我民的君希西家說：耶和華－你祖大衛的神如此說：『我聽見了你的禱告，看見了你的眼淚，我必醫治你；到第三日，你必上到耶和華的殿。

耶西就打發人去叫了他來。他面色光紅，雙目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和華說：「這就是他，你起來膏他。」

「明日這時候，我必使一個人從便雅憫地到你這裏來，你要膏他作我民以色列的君。他必救我民脫離非利士人的手；因我民的哀聲上達於我，我就眷顧他們。」

但我的慈愛仍不離開他，像離開在你面前所廢棄的掃羅一樣。你的家和你的國必在我面前永遠堅立。你的國位也必堅定，直到永遠。』」

原來那為萬物所屬、為萬物所本的，要領許多的兒子進榮耀裏去，使救他們的元帥，因受苦難得以完全，本是合宜的。

大衛在神面前蒙恩，祈求為雅各的神預備居所；

從前掃羅作我們王的時候，率領以色列人出入的是你；耶和華也曾應許你說：『你必牧養我的民以色列，作以色列的君。』」

耶和華對撒母耳說：「我既厭棄掃羅作以色列的王，你為他悲傷要到幾時呢？你將膏油盛滿了角，我差遣你往伯利恆人耶西那裏去；因為我在他眾子之內，預定一個作王的。」

又揀選他的僕人大衛，從羊圈中將他召來，
