In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

Because you know all this, you have great joy. You have joy even though you may have had to suffer for a little while. You may have had to suffer sadness in all kinds of trouble.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

“ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings.We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world— right up to this moment.

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

“ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?If you are not disciplined— and everyone undergoes discipline— then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection.Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.

Then Hannah prayed and said:“ My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.

For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—

sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.

I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and there rejoice in your salvation.

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

My whole being will exclaim,“ Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”
