此數人者、皆懷抱信德而死、生前未見恩諾之通盤實現、惟高瞻遠矚、延頸舉踵企而迎之。同時復自認人生在世、猶如羇旅他鄉、暫作過客而已。

人子長逝、正符經言；第鬻之者、哀莫大焉！斯人之有生、不如無生之為愈也。』

爾等窮索諸經、意欲藉獲永生、第諸經莫非為予作證、

耶穌謂之曰：『愚人哉！何爾心之冥頑、而不信歷來先知之所言乎？基督不當先受苦難、而躋於光榮乎？』於是始自摩西以至歷代先知、凡經中之有關於己者、悉為詳釋。

先知孰不為爾祖所凌辱乎？先知豫報聖者之來而爾祖殺之；今聖者已至、而爾曹又鬻而殺之矣！

吾儕因是愈益確信先知之言、爾等於此亦宜三致意焉。蓋先知之言、猶黑夜之明燈、所以待旭日之東升、與晨星之興於爾心也。惟於此首應注意者、乃經中預言、無一能憑私智而解釋也。蓋歷來豫言、本非出人私智、乃古人感於聖神、而為天主之舌人耳。

眾先知亦為之證。凡信之者、必得賴其名而獲赦焉。』

此間人士賢於德颯洛尼之人、如飢若渴、樂受斯道、日研諸經、俾明真義；

而耶路撒冷居民及其教長不識基督、每禮日所誦先知書訓、亦未領悟；遽定基督之罪、恰應先知之豫言、雖明知其無可死之由、而竟求比辣多處之以死。迨豫指耶穌之言、悉見應驗、乃自木取下、葬之墓塋、

蓋基督神靈、啟迪先知之衷、故彼等能逆知基督之先苦後樂、與夫其事之成於何時何世。

耶穌又謂諸徒曰：『曩日與爾同處、予曾明言、摩西律先知書與聖詠中所載予事、悉當應驗。』

蓋天主夙為吾人備有更微妙之事、而古人之成全、實有待乎吾人者焉。

法利塞人應之曰：『汝亦加利利人耶？汝試一檢群經、應知加利利非出先知之地也！』

摩西有言、「上主必自爾中、立一先知、正如立吾；凡彼所示、爾當信從不信、則必滅自人群也。」自撒母耳以至諸先知所作預言、亦未嘗不預報斯日。

彼等既與葆樂約期、即有多人來其寓所、葆樂自朝至暮向彼等證明天國之道、關於耶穌之事、引徵摩西之律與先知書、以詳說之。
