“ If there is a famine in the land, if there is a plague, if there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemy harasses them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,

『此地若有饑荒、瘟疫、旱風、霉爛、蝗蟲、螞蚱，若有仇敵圍困城市之地，無論甚麼災病、甚麼病痛，

若斯土有饑饉疫癘、五穀枯稿霉爛、或有蝻蝗蚱蜢、或有仇敵犯境、圍其城邑、無論何災何疾、

如於斯土有饑饉、瘟疫、風暴特甚、五穀細弱、如有蝗蟲、食其物產、如有仇敵、困其邑鄉、勿論何災、勿論何害。

如斯地有饑饉疫癘、或稼穡萎弱枯槁、或有蝗蝻蚱蜢之災、或敵人犯境、圍困城池、無論何災、無論何害、害原文作病

“ When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come,

“ Suppose there isn’t enough food in the land. And a plague strikes the land. The hot winds completely dry up our crops. Or locusts or grasshoppers come and eat them up. Or an enemy surrounds one of our cities and gets ready to attack it. Or trouble or sickness comes.

“ If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besieges them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,

“ If there is a famine in the land or a plague or crop disease or attacks of locusts or caterpillars, or if your people’s enemies are in the land besieging their towns— whatever disaster or disease there is—

When there is famine in the land, when there is pestilence, when there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, when their enemy besieges them in the land and its cities, when there is any plague or illness,

“ When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;

If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;

When there is famine on the earth, when there is pestilence, when there is blight, mildew, locust, or grasshopper, when their enemy besieges them in the region of their fortified cities, when there is any plague or illness,

If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust,[ or] if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness[ there be];

“ The time will come when the land suffers from a famine, a plague, blight and disease, or a locust invasion, or when their enemy lays siege to the cities of the land, or when some other type of plague or epidemic occurs.

“ If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is;

I, in turn, will do this to you: I will summon a sudden terror against you, consumption and fever that will make the eyes fail and the soul languish; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it.

The Lord will make the plague cling to you until He has eliminated you from the land where you are entering to take possession of it.The Lord will strike you with consumption, inflammation, fever, feverish heat, and with the sword, with blight, and with mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish.

‘ If disaster comes upon us, the sword, or judgment, or plague, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You( for Your name is in this house), and cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear and save us.’

“ You will bring out a great amount of seed to the field, but you will gather in little, because the locust will devour it.You will plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor bring in the harvest, because the worm will eat it.You will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, because your olives will drop off prematurely.You will father sons and daughters but they will not remain yours, because they will go into captivity.The cricket will take possession of all your trees and the produce of your ground.

For this is what the Lord God says:“ How much more when I send My four severe judgments against Jerusalem: sword, famine, vicious animals, and plague to eliminate human and animal life from it!

And it will besiege you in all your towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land, and it will besiege you in all your towns throughout your land which the Lord your God has given you.Then you will eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will oppress you.The man who is refined and very delicate among you will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife he cherishes, and toward the rest of his children who are left,so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children which he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will oppress you in all your towns.The refined and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and tenderness, will be hostile toward the husband she cherishes and toward her son and daughter,and toward her afterbirth that comes from between her legs, and toward her children to whom she gives birth, because she will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the hardship with which your enemy will oppress you in your towns.“ If you are not careful to follow all the words of this Law that are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the Lord your God,then the Lord will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.And He will bring back on you every disease of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you.Also every sickness and every plague, which are not written in the book of this Law, the Lord will bring on you until you are destroyed.

So there was a severe famine in Samaria; and behold, they kept besieging it until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a fourth of a kab of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver.And as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying,“ Help, my lord the king!”But he said,“ If the Lord does not help you, from where am I to help you? From the threshing floor, or from the wine press?”Then the king said to her,“ What is on your mind?” And she said,“ This woman said to me,‘ Give your son so that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’So we cooked my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day,‘ Give your son, so that we may eat him’; but she has hidden her son.”

“ Then I will compensate you for the years That the swarming locust has eaten, The creeping locust, the stripping locust, and the gnawing locust— My great army which I sent among you.You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied, And you will praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; Then My people will never be put to shame.

“ If there is a famine in the land, if there is a plague, if there is blight or mildew, if there is locust or grasshopper, if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague or whatever sickness there is,whatever prayer or plea is made by anyone or by all Your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own pain, and spreading his hands toward this house,then hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know— for You alone know the hearts of the sons of mankind—so that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You have given to our fathers.

three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord: a plague in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout the territory of Israel.’ Now, therefore, consider what answer I shall bring back to Him who sent me.”

“ The Lord will cause you to be defeated by your enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways from their presence, and you will be an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send a plague among you, so that you will be handed over to the enemy.When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied.‘ Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me,then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I for My part will punish you seven times for your sins.Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons, and you will eat the flesh of your daughters.I then will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and pile your remains on the remains of your idols, for My soul will loathe you.I will turn your cities into ruins as well and make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your soothing aromas.And I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled at it.You, however, I will scatter among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become ruins.‘ Then the land will restore its Sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and restore its Sabbaths.All the days of its desolation it will have the rest which it did not have on your Sabbaths, while you were living on it.As for those among you who are left, I will also bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a scattered leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.They will then stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand before your enemies.Instead, you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you.So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their wrongdoing in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the wrongdoing of their forefathers they will rot away with them.‘ But if they confess their wrongdoing and the wrongdoing of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me—I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies— or if their uncircumcised heart is humbled so that they then make amends for their wrongdoing,then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land.For the land will be abandoned by them, and will restore its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their wrongdoing, because they rejected My ordinances and their soul loathed My statutes.Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so loathe them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God.But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, so that I might be their God. I am the Lord.’ ”These are the statutes and ordinances and laws which the Lord established between Himself and the sons of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.

Now when Jerusalem was captured in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it;in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city wall was breached.Then all the officials of the king of Babylon came in and sat down at the Middle Gate: Nergal sar ezer, Samgar nebu, Sar sekim the Rab saris, Nergal sar ezer the Rab mag, and all the rest of the officials of the king of Babylon.

Now at that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the courtyard of the guard, which was at the house of the king of Judah,

He spoke, and locusts came, And creeping locusts, beyond number,And they ate all the vegetation in their land, And ate the fruit of their ground.

What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.Awake, you heavy drinkers, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, Because of the sweet wine, For it has been eliminated from your mouth.For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the jaws of a lioness.It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree a stump. It has stripped them bare and hurled them away; Their branches have become white.
