So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’” He said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

遂束麻於腰、繫索於首、詣以色列王曰、爾僕便哈達云、請存我命、曰、彼尚在乎、我兄弟也、

遂衣麻於身。繫索於項、至以色列王前曰、爾臣便哈達云、請宥我命、曰、我兄弟尚在乎。

遂腰束麻、項繫繩、至以色列王前、曰、王之僕便哈達云、求王存我命、曰、彼若尚存、我必以兄相待、

Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-Hadad says:‘ Please let me live.’” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they wore rough clothing. They tied ropes around their heads. Then they went to the king of Israel. They told him,“ Your servant Ben- Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He used to be my friend.”

So they tied sackcloth around their waists and put ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please, let me live.’” And he said,“ Does he still live? He is my brother.”

So they put on burlap and ropes, and they went to the king of Israel and begged,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live!’” The king of Israel responded,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother!”

So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please spare my life.’” So he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” And Ahab said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben- hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please spare my life.’” So he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel. They said,“ Your servant Ben Hadad says,‘ Please let me live!’” Ahab replied,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

‘ Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”The king of Israel answered,“ It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.”The messengers came again, and said,“ Ben Hadad says,‘ I sent indeed to you, saying,“ You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they will search your house, and the houses of your servants; whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hand, and take it away.”’”

The lofty looks of man will be brought low, the arrogance of men will be bowed down, and Yahweh alone will be exalted in that day.For there will be a day of Yahweh of Armies for all that is proud and arrogant, and for all that is lifted up; and it shall be brought low:

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.He was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the animals’, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky; until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that he sets up over it whomever he will.“ You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart,‘ Who will bring me down to the ground?’Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.

He said to him,“ Yahweh says,‘ Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”

He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, and of the fat calves, and the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.Then Yahweh’s word came to Samuel, saying,“ It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying,“ Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him,“ You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”Samuel said,“ Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”Saul said,“ They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”Then Samuel said to Saul,“ Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.” He said to him,“ Say on.”Samuel said,“ Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said,‘ Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’Why then didn’t you obey Yahweh’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight?”Saul said to Samuel,“ But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Pour out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.

Therefore it will happen that when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his arrogant looks.

He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools.He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt.

His servants said to him,“ See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”
