便·哈達說：「不管他們是來求和還是求戰，都要生擒他們！」

他说：“他们若为讲和出来，要活捉他们；若为打仗出来，也要活捉他们。”

He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

Ben- Hadad said,“ They might be coming to make peace. If they are, take them alive. Or they might be coming to make war. If they are, take them alive.”

He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive. Or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

“ Take them alive,” Ben hadad commanded,“ whether they have come for peace or for war.”

So he said,“ If they have marched out in peace, take them alive, and if they have marched out for battle, take them alive.”

Then he said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive as well.”

So he said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; and if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

And he said, Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they are come out for war, take them alive.

So he said,“ If they have marched out in peace, take them alive, and if they have marched out for battle, take them alive.”

And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

He ordered,“ Whether they come in peace or to do battle, take them alive.”

後來，亞瑪謝差遣使者對耶戶的孫子、約哈斯的兒子、以色列王約阿施說：「來，我們戰場上見。」以色列王約阿施派人對猶大王亞瑪謝說：「黎巴嫩的蒺藜派使者去對黎巴嫩的香柏樹說，『將你女兒嫁給我兒子吧。』後來黎巴嫩的一隻野獸經過，把那蒺藜踐踏在腳下。你打敗了以東人就趾高氣揚，還是待在家裡慶祝勝利吧，何必惹禍上身，使你和猶大一同滅亡呢？」但亞瑪謝不理會他的勸告。於是，以色列王約阿施起兵攻打猶大王亞瑪謝，兩王會戰於猶大的伯·示麥。猶大人被以色列人打敗，兵將都各自逃回家去了。

又說：「你過來，我要把你的肉丟給天上的飛禽和地上的走獸。」

不要再驕橫傲慢、口出狂言，因為耶和華鑒察萬事，祂會按著人的行為施行審判。勇士的弓被折斷，軟弱的變為剛強。

驕傲是敗亡的前奏，謙虛是尊榮的先鋒。

非利士的駐軍看見二人走近，就說：「看！希伯來人從洞裡爬出來了！」駐軍對約拿單和拿兵器的人大喊：「上來，我們要教訓教訓你們。」約拿單就對拿兵器的人說：「跟著我爬上去，耶和華已經把他們交在以色列人手裡了。」
