So Ahab summoned the 232 junior officers under the provincial commanders. Then he assembled the rest of the Israelites, 7,000 in all.

但我在以色列人中留下七千人，他們全是未曾向巴力屈過膝的，也未曾與巴力親過嘴的。”

那時掃羅在基比亞的邊界，坐在米磯崙的石榴樹下，跟隨他的約有六百人。

耶和華對基甸說：“我要用這舔水的三百人拯救你們，把米甸人交在你們的手裡，所有其他的人都可以各回自己的地方去。”

所以耶和華的怒氣向他的子民發作；他厭惡自己的產業，把他們交在外族人的手裡，恨惡他們的人就管轄他們。他們的仇敵壓迫他們，他們就屈服在仇敵的手下。神曾多次搭救他們，他們卻故意悖逆，以致因自己的罪孽降為卑微。

亞撒呼求耶和華他的神說：“耶和華啊，強弱懸殊，除你以外沒有別的幫助。耶和華我們的神啊，求你幫助我們。因為我們倚靠你，奉你的名去對抗這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要讓人勝過你。”

約拿單對替他拿武器的僕人說：“來！我們過到這些未受割禮的人的駐軍那裡去，也許耶和華會為我們動工，因為不論人多或人少，都不能妨礙耶和華施行拯救。”
