There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him:“ What are you doing here, Elijah?”

以利亚听见了，就用自己的外衣蒙着脸，走出来，站在洞口。忽然有声音向他说：“以利亚啊，你在这里干什么？”

就问她：“撒莱的婢女夏甲啊，你从哪里来？要到哪里去？”夏甲回答：“我从我的主母撒莱面前逃出来。”

现在，你为什么要到埃及去，喝西曷的水呢？你为什么要到亚述去，喝幼发拉底河的水呢？

耶和华神呼唤那人，对他说：“你在哪里？”

可是约拿却起来，要逃往他施去，躲避耶和华；他下到约帕，找到了一只要开往他施去的船；他给了钱，就上船（“上船”原文作“下船”），要和他们同往他施去，离开耶和华。但是耶和华在海上忽然刮起大风，于是海中狂风大作，船几乎要破裂了。

耶和华说：“看哪，我这里有个地方，你要站在磐石上。我的荣耀经过的时候，我要把你放在磐石隙中，我要用我的手掌遮盖你，直到我过去了。

但愿我在旷野有一个旅客住宿的地方，好使我离开我的同胞，可以离他们而去；因为他们都是行奸淫的，是行诡诈之徒。（本节在《马索拉文本》为9:1）

原是这世界不配有的人。他们飘流无定，在旷野、山岭、石洞和地穴栖身。
