第二天，他们行路将近那城。彼得约在午正，上房顶去祷告，

主啊，你是公义的，我们是脸上蒙羞的；因我们犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民，并以色列众人，或在近处，或在远处，被你赶到各国的人，都得罪了你，正如今日一样。

我便禁食，披麻蒙灰，定意向主神祈祷恳求。

以利亚听见，就用外衣蒙上脸，出来站在洞口。有声音向他说：“以利亚啊，你在这里做什么？”

约书亚便撕裂衣服；他和以色列的长老把灰撒在头上，在耶和华的约柜前俯伏在地，直到晚上。

现在你当差遣人，招聚以色列众人和侍奉巴力的那四百五十个先知，并耶洗别所供养侍奉亚舍拉的那四百个先知，使他们都上迦密山去见我。”亚哈就差遣人招聚以色列众人和先知都上迦密山。

希西家就转脸朝墙，祷告耶和华说：

散了众人以后，他就独自上山去祷告。到了晚上，只有他一人在那里。

其上有撒拉弗侍立，各有六个翅膀：用两个翅膀遮脸，两个翅膀遮脚，两个翅膀飞翔；

他在圣者的会中，是大有威严的神，比一切在他四围的更可畏惧。

那时，耶稣出去，上山祷告，整夜祷告神；

所以你们要彼此认罪，互相代求，使你们可以得医治。义人祈祷所发的力量是大有功效的。以利亚与我们是一样性情的人，他恳切祷告，求不要下雨，雨就三年零六个月不下在地上。他又祷告，天就降下雨来，地也生出土产。

说：“我的神啊，我抱愧蒙羞，不敢向我神仰面；因为我们的罪孽灭顶，我们的罪恶滔天。

所以大卫为这孩子恳求神，而且禁食，进入内室，终夜躺在地上。

亚伯拉罕的仆人听见他们这话，就向耶和华俯伏在地。

他就稍往前走，俯伏在地，祷告说：“倘若可行，便叫那时候过去。”
