「我們的神哪，現在求你垂聽你僕人的禱告和懇求；主啊，為你自己的緣故，求你使你的臉照亮你荒涼的聖所！我的神哪，求你側耳聽，求你垂聽！求你睜眼看我們的荒涼和這被稱為你名下的城，因為我們在你面前呈上的懇求不是因著我們的義，而是因著你豐盛的憐憫。主啊，求你垂聽！主啊，求你赦免！主啊，求你留心聽並且行動！我的神哪，為你自己的緣故，求你不要遲延，因為你的城和你的子民都是被稱為你名下的。」

我告訴你們：即使不因著是朋友而起來拿給他，還是會因著他毫無羞愧地求，就起來把他所要的拿給他。

看哪！在耶和華大而可畏的日子來到之前，我必派遣先知以利亞到你們那裡去。他必使父親的心轉向兒女，使兒女的心轉向他們的父親，以免我來擊打這地、施行命定的滅絕。」

耶和華啊，求你側耳聽！耶和華啊，求你睜眼看！聽聽西納基立派人來辱罵永生神的一切話！耶和華啊，亞述列王確實使列國和它們的國土荒廢，又把它們的神像扔進火中；那些神像之所以被滅絕，是因為它們不是神，只不過是人手所造的，是用木頭、石頭造的！耶和華我們的神哪，現在求你拯救我們脫離亞述王的手，使地上萬國都知道，唯獨你——你是耶和華！」

那人說：「你的名字不要再叫雅各，而要叫以色列，因為你已經與神與人較力，並且得勝了。」

最後雅各獨自留下。那夜，有一個人與雅各摔跤，直到黎明。

他將使許多以色列子民歸向主——他們的神。他將藉著以利亞的靈和能力，在主的面前先行，使父親的心轉向兒女，使悖逆的人轉向義人的智慧，好為主準備一群預備好了的子民。」

那人說：「天亮了，讓我走吧！」雅各說：「你不祝福我，我就不讓你走。」

所以你們當彼此認罪，彼此代求，好使你們得痊癒。義人所做的祈禱是大有力量的。以利亞和我們同樣是人，但他用禱告來祈求不要降雨，果然地上三年零六個月沒有降雨。
