“ Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”

“ Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”

“ Go right away to Zarephath in the region of Sidon. Stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”

“ Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”

“ Get up, go to Zarephath that belongs to Sidon and stay there. Look, I have commanded a woman who is a widow to provide for you there.”

“ Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide food for you.”

“ Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.

“ Get up, go to Zarephath that belongs to Sidon and stay there. Look, I have commanded a woman who is a widow to provide for you there.”

“ Get up, go to Zarephath in Sidonian territory, and live there. I have already told a widow who lives there to provide for you.”

The exiles of Israel will return to their land and occupy the Phoenician coast as far north as Zarephath. The captives from Jerusalem exiled in the north will return home and resettle the towns of the Negev.

Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a foreigner— a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon.

Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.”

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him,“ I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping— believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him,“ That’s how many descendants you will have!”And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead— and so was Sarah’s womb.Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.

The Lord said to Gideon,“ You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.

But the Lord told Gideon,“ There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.”

Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon.A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading,“ Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.”
