有一次、耶羅波安從耶路撒冷出來，示羅人亞希雅神言人在路上遇見了他；亞希雅身上穿着一件新衣裳；他們二人在野地上，以外並沒有別人。

這一天，以利在自己的地方睡着；他的眼睛早已開始昏花，不能看清楚了。

那時以利九十八歲了，他的眼睛發直，不能看清楚。

以色列人全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會棚立在那裏；那地在他們面前被征服了。

以撒老邁，眼睛昏花，不能看見，就叫了他的大兒子以掃來，對他說：『孩子。』以掃對以撒說：『看哪，我在這裏。』

以色列因年紀老邁，眼力遲鈍，不能看見；約瑟領他們挨近前去到他那裏，他就和他們親嘴，抱着他們。

當那日子、看守房屋的都發抖，大有力氣的人都彎腰，推磨的因稀少、都停了工，從窗戶往外看的都昏矇了，

這其中、我們的年日是七十歲；若是強壯，可到八十歲；但其中所矜誇的、不過是勞苦愁煩迅速地過去，我們也飛沒了。

耶羅波安對他的妻子說：『你起來改裝，使人不知道你是耶羅波安的妻子；往示羅去；看吧，在那裏有神言人亞希雅；他曾說到我必作王管理這人民的事。

摩西死的時候、年一百二十歲；他的眼睛沒有昏花，精力沒有衰退。

人民來到營中，以色列的長老就說：『永恆主今天為甚麼擊敗我們於非利士人面前呢？我們將永恆主的約櫃從示羅接到我們這裏來吧，好讓他在我們中間拯救我們脫離敵人的手掌。』於是人民打發了人到示羅，從那裏將坐在兩個基路伯上的萬軍之永恆主的約櫃抬來；以利的兩個兒子何弗尼非尼哈跟上帝的約櫃一同來。

你請到我的地方，就是那在示羅的，我起先使我的名居住的所在，去察看我因我人民以色列的邪惡對那地所行的怎麼樣。現在呢、永恆主發神諭說，因你們行了這一切事，我也曾告誡了你們，又及時又屢次地告誡，你們卻不聽；我呼喚你們，你們卻不應，因此我必待這殿，就是這稱為我名下的，你們所倚靠的，我必待這地方，就是我所賜給你們、和你們列祖的，像我從前待示羅一樣。
