一日，耶羅波安出了耶路撒冷，示羅人先知亞希雅在路上遇見他；亞希雅身上穿着一件新衣。他們二人在田野，以外並無別人。

一日，以利睡臥在自己的地方；他眼目昏花，看不分明。

那時以利九十八歲了，眼目發直，不能看見。

以色列的全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會幕設立在那裏，那地已經被他們制伏了。

以撒年老，眼睛昏花，不能看見，就叫了他大兒子以掃來，說：「我兒。」以掃說：「我在這裏。」

以色列年紀老邁，眼睛昏花，不能看見。約瑟領他們到他跟前，他就和他們親嘴，抱着他們。

看守房屋的發顫，有力的屈身，推磨的稀少就止息，從窗戶往外看的都昏暗；

我們一生的年日是七十歲，若是強壯可到八十歲；但其中所矜誇的不過是勞苦愁煩，轉眼成空，我們便如飛而去。

耶羅波安對他的妻說：「你可以起來改裝，使人不知道你是耶羅波安的妻，往示羅去，在那裏有先知亞希雅。他曾告訴我說，你必作這民的王。

摩西死的時候年一百二十歲；眼目沒有昏花，精神沒有衰敗。

百姓回到營裏，以色列的長老說：「耶和華今日為何使我們敗在非利士人面前呢？我們不如將耶和華的約櫃從示羅擡到我們這裏來，好在我們中間救我們脫離敵人的手。」於是百姓打發人到示羅，從那裏將坐在二基路伯上萬軍之耶和華的約櫃擡來。以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈與神的約櫃同來。

你們且往示羅去，就是我先前立為我名的居所，察看我因這百姓以色列的罪惡向那地所行的如何。」耶和華說：「現在因你們行了這一切的事，我也從早起來警戒你們，你們卻不聽從；呼喚你們，你們卻不答應。所以我要向這稱為我名下、你們所倚靠的殿，與我所賜給你們和你們列祖的地施行，照我從前向示羅所行的一樣。
