For the Lord gave me this command:‘ You must not eat or drink anything while you are there, and do not return to Judah by the same way you came.’”

For I was commanded by the word of the Lord:‘ You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.’”

The Lord gave me a command. He said,‘ Do not eat bread or drink water there. Do not return the same way you came.’ ”

for so was it commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying,‘ You shall neither eat bread nor drink water nor return by the way that you came.’”

for this is what I was commanded by the word of the LORD:‘ You must not eat food or drink water or go back the way you came.’”

For so it was commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying,‘ You shall not eat bread nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.’ ”

For the LORD gave me strict orders,‘ Do not eat or drink there and do not go home the way you came.’”

for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying,‘ You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”

Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. Don’t let me share in the delicacies of those who do wrong.

I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food.

that scoundrels among you are leading their fellow citizens astray by saying,‘ Let us go worship other gods’— gods you have not known before.In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find that the report is true and such a detestable act has been committed among you,you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the open square and burn it. Burn the entire town as a burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a large nation, just as he swore to your ancestors.“ The Lord your God will be merciful only if you listen to his voice and keep all his commands that I am giving you today, doing what pleases him.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.

He cried out to the man of God from Judah,“ This is what the Lord says: You have defied the word of the Lord and have disobeyed the command the Lord your God gave you.You came back to this place and ate and drank where he told you not to eat or drink. Because of this, your body will not be buried in the grave of your ancestors.”

At the Lord’s command, a man of God from Judah went to Bethel, arriving there just as Jeroboam was approaching the altar to burn incense.

“ I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

“ Quick!” he told the people.“ Get away from the tents of these wicked men, and don’t touch anything that belongs to them. If you do, you will be destroyed for their sins.”

But Samuel replied,“ What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,“ Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.

I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.
