Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. Then Peter said,“ Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.Peter asked her,“ Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”“ Yes,” she said,“ that is the price.”Peter said to her,“ How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Say to the assembly,‘ Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’”Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him.He warned the assembly,“ Move back from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing with their wives, children and little ones at the entrances to their tents. Then Moses said,“ This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea:If these men die a natural death and suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me.But if the Lord brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the realm of the dead, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt.”As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apartand the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting,“ The earth is going to swallow us too!”And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense. Exodus 9:18-25
Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’”Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field. Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt— on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.”When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt;hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields— both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.
