“ Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.”

“ Your father was a hard master,” they said.“ Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us. Then we will be your loyal subjects.”

說：“那要統治你們的王將這樣治理你們：他必徵用你們的兒子，派他們作他的戰車兵、騎兵、在車前奔走的前鋒，又派他們作千夫長、五十夫長，替他耕田、收他的莊稼、替他製造作戰的武器和戰車上的裝備。他必徵用你們的女兒作配香膏的、燒飯的和烤餅的。他必奪去你們最好的田地、葡萄園和橄欖園，賜給自己的臣僕。你們撒種所得的和葡萄園所出的，他都徵收十分之一，賜給他的太監和臣僕。他又必徵收你們的僕婢、最精壯的青年和驢，替他工作。你們的羊群，他要徵收十分之一；連你們自己也作他的奴僕。到時，你們必因你們為自己揀選的王而哀求，那時耶和華卻不應允你們。”

所羅門在全以色列立了十二個官員；他們為王和王家供應食物，每人每年供應一個月。

這是所羅門王徵召服勞役的建築耶和華的殿和他自己的王宮，以及米羅、耶路撒冷的城牆、夏瑣、米吉多和基色的記錄。

“你父親使我們所負的軛甚重，現在求你減輕你父親加在我們身上的勞役和重軛，我們就服事你。”羅波安對他們說：“三天以後你們再來見我吧！”眾人就離去了。

我心裡柔和謙卑，你們應當負我的軛，向我學習，你們就必得著心靈的安息；我的軛是容易負的，我的擔子是輕省的。”

他們把重擔捆起來，壓在人的肩頭上，但自己連一個指頭也不肯動。

猶大人和以色列人很多，像海邊的沙那樣多；他們都吃喝、快樂。所羅門統治列國，從大河到非利士地，直到埃及的邊界。這些國家，在所羅門在世的日子，都向他進貢，服事他。所羅門每天的食物是細麵粉五千公升、粗麵粉一萬公升、肥牛十頭、草場的牛二十頭、羊一百隻，此外還有鹿、羚羊、麅子和肥禽。因為所羅門統治大河西邊，從提弗薩直到迦薩的全境和大河西邊的列王，所以他的四境都平安無事。所羅門在世的日子，猶大和以色列人從但到別是巴，都各在自己的葡萄樹下和無花果樹下安然居住。

至於以色列人，所羅門卻沒有使他們作奴僕，而是作他的戰士、臣僕、統領、軍長、戰車長和騎兵長。所羅門有督工五百五十人，負責管理作工的人和監督工程。
