亞撒的軍隊，拿大盾牌和矛槍的猶大人，共有三十萬；拿小盾牌和拉弓的便雅憫人，共有二十八萬；他們都是英勇的戰士。

約押把數點人民的數目呈報大衛：全以色列能拿刀的人，共有一百一十萬；猶大能拿刀的人，共有四十七萬。

他們的數目，按著他們的家族記在下面：猶大支派的千夫長中，有押拿軍長，率領英勇的戰士三十萬；在押拿底下，是約哈難軍長，率領二十八萬人；在約哈難底下，是細基利的兒子亞瑪斯雅，他是個甘願獻身給耶和華的人，率領英勇的戰士二十萬。便雅憫支派中有英勇的戰士以利雅大，率領配備弓箭和盾牌的人二十萬，在以利雅大底下是約薩拔，率領常備軍十八萬。這些人都是服事王的；還有王在猶大全地各設防城裡安置的，沒有計算在內。

任何智慧、聰明、謀略都不能敵擋耶和華。馬是為打仗之日預備的，勝利卻在於耶和華。

亞撒呼求耶和華他的神說：“耶和華啊，強弱懸殊，除你以外沒有別的幫助。耶和華我們的神啊，求你幫助我們。因為我們倚靠你，奉你的名去對抗這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要讓人勝過你。”
