They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites,“ You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

The Lord had warned Israel about women from other nations. He had said,“ You must not marry them. If you do, you can be sure they will turn your hearts toward their gods.” But Solomon continued to love them anyway. He wouldn’t give them up.

from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel,“ You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.

The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel,“ You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.

They came from nations about which the LORD had warned the Israelites,“ You must not establish friendly relations with them! If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them.

and you might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might prostitute themselves with their gods and cause your sons also to prostitute themselves with their gods.

Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them: you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons.For they will turn your sons away from following Me, and they will serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you.

For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain with you, and intermarry with them, so that you associate with them and they with you,know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

While Israel remained at Shittim, the people began to commit infidelity with the daughters of Moab.For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.So Israel became followers of Baal of Peor, and the Lord was angry with Israel.

You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.They shall not live in your land, otherwise they will make you sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, it is certain to be a snare to you.”

Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord which He loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Do not be mismatched with unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness share together, or what does light have in common with darkness?Or what harmony does Christ have with Belial, or what does a believer share with an unbeliever?Or what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,“ I will dwell among them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Do not be deceived:“ Bad company corrupts good morals.”

Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.

and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

And as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.So he erected an altar for Baal at the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.Ahab also made the Asherah. So Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for Ahab’s daughter was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

But he was deeply attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.

Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, said to Ezra,“ We have been unfaithful to our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope for Israel in spite of this.So now let’s make a covenant with our God to send away all the wives and their children, following the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the Law.Arise! For this matter is your responsibility, but we will be with you; be courageous and act.”Then Ezra stood and made the leading priests, the Levites, and all Israel take an oath that they would do according to this proposal; so they took the oath.Then Ezra rose from before the house of God and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib. Although he went there, he did not eat bread nor drink water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.So they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the exiles, that they were to assemble at Jerusalem,and that whoever did not come within three days, in accordance with the counsel of the leaders and the elders, all his property would be forfeited, and he himself would be excluded from the assembly of the exiles.So all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month on the twentieth of the month, and all the people sat in the public square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and the heavy rain.Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them,“ You have been unfaithful and have married foreign wives, adding to the guilt of Israel.Now therefore, make confession to the Lord God of your fathers and do His will; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign wives.”Then all the assembly replied with a loud voice,“ It is our duty to do exactly as you have said!However, there are many people, it is the rainy season, and we are not able to stand in the open. Nor can the task be done in one or two days, because we have done a great wrong in this matter.Please let our leaders represent all the assembly and have all those in our cities who have married foreign wives come at appointed times, together with the elders and judges of each city, until the fierce anger of our God on account of this matter is turned away from us.”Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah opposed this, with Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supporting them.But the exiles did so. And Ezra the priest selected men who were the heads of fathers’ households for each of their father’s households, all of them by name. So they convened on the first day of the tenth month to investigate the matter.And they finished investigating all the men who had married foreign wives by the first day of the first month.

After this it came about that he was in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.So the governors of the Philistines came up to her and said to her,“ Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and how we can overpower him so that we may bind him to humble him. Then we will each give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”So Delilah said to Samson,“ Please tell me where your great strength lies, and how you can be bound to humble you.”And Samson said to her,“ If they bind me with seven fresh animal tendons that have not been dried, then I will become weak and be like any other man.”Then the governors of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh animal tendons that had not been dried, and she bound him with them.Now she had men prepared for an ambush in an inner room. And she said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he tore the tendons to pieces just like a thread of flax is torn apart when it comes too close to fire. So his strength was not discovered.Then Delilah said to Samson,“ Behold, you have toyed with me and told me lies; now please tell me how you may be bound.”Then He said to her,“ If they bind me tightly with new ropes which have not been used, then I will become weak and be like any other man.”So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” For the men in the ambush were waiting in the inner room. But he tore the ropes from his arms like thread.Then Delilah said to Samson,“ Up to now you have toyed with me and told me lies; tell me how you may be bound.” And he said to her,“ If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web[ and fasten it with the pin, then I will be weak like any other man.”So while he slept, Delilah wove the seven locks of his hair with the web]. And she fastened it with the pin and said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web.Then she said to him,“ How can you say,‘ I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have toyed with me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is.”And it came about, when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her,“ A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak and be like any other man.”When Delilah saw that he had told her all that was in his heart, she sent word and called the governors of the Philistines, saying,“ Come up once more, for he has told me all that is in his heart.” Then the governors of the Philistines came up to her and brought up the money in their hands.And she made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to humble him, and his strength left him.She said,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said,“ I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.Then the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and restrained him with bronze chains, and he became a grinder in the prison.

and they took their daughters for themselves as wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.So the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.

Do I not hate those who hate You, Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?

So now do not give your daughters to their sons nor take their daughters for your sons, and never seek their peace or their prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, and leave it as an inheritance to your sons forever.’

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat,“ Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord, and by doing so bring wrath on yourself from the Lord?
