Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said,“ I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting,“ I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

After this, Absalom got himself a chariot, horses, and 50 men to run before him.

the fourth was Adonijah, son of Haggith; the fifth was Shephatiah, son of Abital;

And out of all my sons— for the Lord has given me many sons— He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingdom over Israel.

You are still acting arrogantly against My people by not letting them go.

you are to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses. Appoint a king from your brothers. You are not to set a foreigner over you, or one who is not of your people.However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the Lord has told you,‘ You are never to go back that way again.’

Then King David said to all the assembly,“ My son Solomon— God has chosen him alone— is young and inexperienced. The task is great because the temple will not be for man but for the Lord God.

Their land is full of silver and gold, and there is no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses, and there is no limit to their chariots.

I tell you, this one went down to his house justified rather than the other; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

“ Please speak in the presence of all the lords of Shechem,‘ Is it better for you that 70 men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you or that one man rule over you?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and blood.”

Absalom son of Maacah, daughter of King Talmai of Geshur, was third; Adonijah son of Haggith was fourth;

Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.

Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

And now, as the Lord lives, the One who established me, seated me on the throne of my father David, and made me a dynasty as He promised— I swear Adonijah will be put to death today!”

Then Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother,“ Have you not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith has become king and our lord David does not know it?

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

David said,“ My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly great and famous and glorious in all the lands. Therefore, I must make provision for it.” So David made lavish preparations for it before his death.Then he summoned his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.“ My son,” David said to Solomon,“ It was in my heart to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God,but the word of the Lord came to me:‘ You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.He is the one who will build a house for My name. He will be My son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’“ Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as He said about you.
