Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said,“ I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

Adonijah was the son of David and his wife Haggith. He came forward and announced,“ I’m going to be the next king.” So he got chariots and horses ready. He also got 50 men to run in front of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting,“ I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

此後、押沙龍備車馬與五十人、奔走於前、

四亞多尼雅、乃哈及之子、五示法提雅、乃亞比他之子、

耶和華賜我多子、在我子中簡我子所羅門、居耶和華國之位、以治以色列人、

爾猶自高、禁阻我民、不釋之往乎、

則必以爾上帝耶和華所選者、立之為王、必爾同儕方可、外族之人不可治爾、王勿增馬、勿使民返埃及、以增其馬、蓋耶和華曾諭爾曰、不可復往此途、

大衛王謂會眾曰、我子所羅門、乃耶和華所簡、今尚冲弱、而工程浩大、蓋此殿宇非為人也、乃為耶和華上帝也、

其地滿以金銀、貨財無算、盈以馬匹、車乘無數、

我語汝、此人歸、較彼見義、蓋自高者、將卑之、自卑者、將高之也、○

請爾謂示劍之眾曰、耶路巴力七十子治爾、與一人治爾、孰善、當念我與爾乃骨肉之親、

三子押沙龍、基述王達買女瑪迦所出、四子亞多尼雅、哈及所出、

倨傲為淪亡之先導、心驕乃隕越之前因、

隕越為心驕之繼、謙遜在尊榮之先、

維生之耶和華堅立我、使踐我父大衛之位、依其所許、為我建立家室、我指之而誓、亞多尼雅、今日必致之死、

拿單告所羅門母拔示巴曰、哈及子亞多尼雅為王、爾未聞之乎、我主大衛未之知也、

蓋凡自高者、將卑之、自卑者、將高之也、○

大衛曰、我子所羅門尚冲弱、為耶和華建室、必極壯麗、聲譽榮光、播於萬國、故我必為之備、於是大衛未死之先、儲材豐盛、○大衛召子所羅門、囑其為以色列之上帝耶和華建室、謂之曰、我子歟、我有意為我上帝耶和華之名建室、惟耶和華降諭於我曰、爾流人血甚多、屢經大戰、不可為我名建室、因爾多流人血於地、為我目擊、爾將生子、彼處平康、厥名所羅門、我必錫以綏安、使免四周諸敵之擾、彼在位時、我必錫綏安於以色列族、彼將為我名建室、彼必為我子、我必為其父、固其國位於以色列、歷世弗替、我子歟、願耶和華偕爾、願爾亨通、建爾上帝耶和華之室、循其所言、
