不可報仇，也不可懷恨你本國的子民，要愛你的鄰舍如同你自己：我是永恆主。

耶穌回答說：『第一要緊的是：「以色列啊，你要聽；主我們的上帝是獨一無二的主；要將你完全的心、你完全的性命、完全的精神、完全的力量、愛主你的上帝。」其次的是：「要愛你的鄰舍如同你自己」。再沒有別的誡命比這兩條更大的了。』那經學士對他說：『先生，不錯；上帝只有一位，除他以外、再沒有別的上帝；將完全的心、完全的聰明、完全的力量愛他，又愛鄰舍如同自己，是比一切全燔祭和各樣祭祀好的多的：你說的真是對啊。』

耶穌對他說：『要用你完全的心、完全的性命、完全的精神、愛主你的上帝。這是最大的，又是第一要緊的誡命。其次的也跟這個相彷彿：要愛你的鄰舍如同你自己。這兩條誡命、就是全律法和神言人的教訓所依據的。』

弟兄們，你們是蒙了召以得自由了；不過別用那自由去為肉體造機會；卻要憑着愛心互相服事。因為在『愛鄰舍如同你自己』這一句話裏、全律法就都行盡了。

你要全心、全意、全力愛永恆主你的上帝。

固然囉，你們如果依照經上所記『愛鄰舍如同你自己』的話、行盡了賦有王權的律法，那好極了！不過你們若是以貌取人，便是犯罪，被律法定為犯法的人了。因為凡遵守全律法、而在一件事上失腳的、就有全部罪責了。因為那說『不可姦淫』的、也說『不可殺人』；你若不姦淫，卻殺人，你還是犯法的。你們將要怎樣按自由律而受審判，就該怎樣說話，怎樣行事。

眾人就拉住保羅，帶到亞畧巴古，說：『你所講的這個新教訓是甚麼，我們可以知道麼？』
