If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.

If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.

If I preach because I want to, I get a reward. If I preach because I have to, I’m only doing my duty.

For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission.

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a commission nonetheless.

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.

For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a stewardship.

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation[ of the gospel] is committed unto me.

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.

For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews.

The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.

If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs.

God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you.

So look at Apollos and me as mere servants of Christ who have been put in charge of explaining God’s mysteries.

But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

“ And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly— not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never ending glory and honor.

If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.

And the people commended everyone who volunteered to resettle in Jerusalem.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong.

The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord, and King David was filled with joy.

and for the other gold and silver work to be done by the craftsmen. Now then, who will follow my example and give offerings to the Lord today?”

Then I heard the Lord asking,“ Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said,“ Here I am. Send me.”

See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.

For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.

Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!

But Moses again pleaded,“ Lord, please! Send anyone else.”Then the Lord became angry with Moses.“ All right,” he said.“ What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you.

But I didn’t want to do anything without your consent. I wanted you to help because you were willing, not because you were forced.

Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News.Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.

This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry.So he complained to the Lord about it:“ Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”

that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God.I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him,even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.

And the Lord replied,“ A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.

“ How I wish one of you would shut the Temple doors so that these worthless sacrifices could not be offered! I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,“ and I will not accept your offerings.

assuming, by the way, that you know God gave me the special responsibility of extending his grace to you Gentiles.As I briefly wrote earlier, God himself revealed his mysterious plan to me.As you read what I have written, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ.God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets.And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News.Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.

But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!
