Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.

Brothers and sisters, I have used myself and Apollos as examples to help you. You can learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Don’t go beyond what is written.” Then you won’t be proud that you follow one of us instead of the other.

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

Dear brothers and sisters, I have used Apollos and myself to illustrate what I’ve been saying. If you pay attention to what I have quoted from the Scriptures, you won’t be proud of one of your leaders at the expense of another.

For all things[ are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but[ we do] all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but[ now] I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me[ to be], or[ that] he heareth of me.

But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.For such[ are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.Therefore[ it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he[ is] Christ’s, even so[ are] we Christ’s.

Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

Put not your trust in princes,[ nor] in the son of man, in whom[ there is] no help.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I[ am] of Apollos; are ye not carnal?Who then is Paul, and who[ is] Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Not boasting of things without[ our] measure,[ that is], of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with[ you].

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider[ it]?For vain man would be wise, though man be born[ like] a wild ass’s colt.

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed[ be] the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness,[ in] a salt land and not inhabited.

And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all[ men] come to him.John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;

Cease ye from man, whose breath[ is] in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think[ of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Your glorying[ is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master,[ even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.And call no[ man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master,[ even] Christ.

And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses,[ one] of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets,[ and] that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
