Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.

Brothers and sisters, I have used myself and Apollos as examples to help you. You can learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Don’t go beyond what is written.” Then you won’t be proud that you follow one of us instead of the other.

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

Dear brothers and sisters, I have used Apollos and myself to illustrate what I’ve been saying. If you pay attention to what I have quoted from the Scriptures, you won’t be proud of one of your leaders at the expense of another.

Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying:“ Nothing beyond what is written.” The purpose is that none of you will be arrogant, favoring one person over another.

Now these things, brothers and sisters, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos on your account, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.

夫愛之為德、寬裕含忍、愷悌慈祥、不忮不求、不矜不伐、

試舉一例、爾中或云『我乃葆樂之人、』或云『我乃亞波羅之人、』或云『我乃基法之人、』或云『我乃基督之人。』

設若有人、向爾等宣佈另一基督、而非吾儕所宣佈之基督；另一聖神、而非爾等所接受之聖神；或另一福音、而非爾等所夙聞之福音；爾等亦能容納也！

蓋萬事莫非為爾等之故、亦欲使聖寵廣被元元、俾萬眾一心、稱謝天主之光榮云耳。

爾等以為吾儕但欲自為辨白耳。實則吾儕對越在天、言不離基督、在一切事上、惟欲己達達人、己立立人而已矣。

莫令他人以虛偽之謙卑為詞、誘爾敬拜天神、於以奪去爾等之榮冠也。若輩矜其所見、以肉情之幻覺、妄自尊大、舍本逐末、甘自與元首隔絕；

予之忍受一切、實為選民之故、欲使其恃基督耶穌以邀天恩、而承無疆之休。

吾即欲誇、亦不致為狂妄、以所言皆實耳。然吾不欲多言、恐人之視我太高、超乎所見所聞於吾者。

顧吾之所以為此、且願守此不渝者、不欲予人以口實、而謂若輩之所誇亦同乎吾儕之所誇耳。若輩偽宗徒冒基督宗徒之名、而行其欺詐之實。然此不足為奇；即沙殫亦嘗冒充光明之天神、則其僕之冒充正義之僕、不亦宜乎！惟若輩必依其所作之孽、而受報應也。

具徵吾儕之授爾以福音、不僅以言、且以神力與聖神、實事求是、廓然不疑。吾儕向在爾中服務、爾等固知其為何如人也。

何爾等眼光之淺耶！若有自矜其為基督之僕、曷一思吾儕亦未嘗非基督之僕也。

至論祭肉如何、吾人皆曰斯易知耳。然知能長傲、惟愛德則能立己立人也。

豈可委爾心。仰賴侯與王。

經不云乎、『吾將毀智者之智、滅巧者之巧。』

甲云：『我乃葆樂之人、』乙云、『我乃亞波羅之人、』此非世俗人之所為乎？夫亞波羅何人耶？葆樂何人耶？不過天主之僕、銜主之命、各盡其能、以使爾等信奉真道者耳。我種植之、亞波羅從而灌溉之；而使其發榮滋長者、則天主也。種植者與灌溉者均不足貴也；所可貴者惟賜其發榮滋長之天主耳。

靜觀宇宙內。氣象何輝煌。瑞景燦中天。星月耀靈光。

吾儕亦未過份自誇、而貪他人之功以為己功也。但望爾等之信德、與日俱長；庶幾吾儕之範圍、亦得賴以擴張、

吾之所為、莫非為福音之故；惟如此、始克共承福音所許之惠耳。

吾儕不敢與一般自衒自媒者、較一日之短長、惟任若輩自相較量；實則皆淺識絀見耳。

爾中有人、近頗言大而誇、一若我無再來爾處之可能也者。然主若許者我最近必來就爾。其時我所欲知者、非誇者之言、乃欲一測其實際之品德；

蓋世之所謂智巧、自天主視之、愚拙莫甚焉。經不云乎：『天主令智者自墮其巧計之中。』

爾等尚驕矜自滿、而不痛自懲創、毅然擯絕如此亂倫忤逆之子耶。

因共謁如望曰：『夫子曩在約但河外、所為作證者、今亦授洗、人盡趨之。』如望應曰：『苟非自天授之、人亦何所受乎？

是故切勿因人而誇也；應知萬物皆備於爾矣。

吾憑所受聖寵、勸爾人人、切弗自估過高、務須各依天主所賦之信德平心自衡。

爾等實無誇耀之理由。豈不知些須之酵、能醱全飥乎？

經云：『誇耀者、誇耀天主也可、』此之謂歟。

爾曹勿稱「辣比、」蓋爾師唯一、爾曹皆屬兄弟。勿稱在地者為父、爾父惟一、在天者是。勿受夫子之稱、夫子惟一、基督是已。
