for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?

蓋爾尚為屬肉者、爾中有娼嫉、爭鬥、釁隙、豈爾非屬肉、循人意而行乎、

蓋依然未脫本性也。爾中一日有相妒相爭之事、即一日未克進於超性之境、而脫盡世俗之習。

You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?

You are still following the ways of the world. Some of you are jealous. Some of you argue. So aren’t you following the ways of the world? Aren’t you acting like ordinary human beings?

for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

because you are still worldly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not worldly and behaving like mere humans?

for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like ordinary people?

for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

for ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk after the manner of men?

because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers?

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas[ there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people?

for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, aren’t you fleshly, and don’t you walk in the ways of men?

For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it.

Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.

For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.

But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.

For some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters.

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil— the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.Put on your new nature, created to be like God— truly righteous and holy.

You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.

When one of you has a dispute with another believer, how dare you file a lawsuit and ask a secular court to decide the matter instead of taking it to other believers!Don’t you realize that someday we believers will judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can’t you decide even these little things among yourselves?Don’t you realize that we will judge angels? So you should surely be able to resolve ordinary disputes in this life.If you have legal disputes about such matters, why go to outside judges who are not respected by the church?I am saying this to shame you. Isn’t there anyone in all the church who is wise enough to decide these issues?But instead, one believer sues another— right in front of unbelievers!Even to have such lawsuits with one another is a defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?Instead, you yourselves are the ones who do wrong and cheat even your fellow believers.

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

But like Adam, you broke my covenant and betrayed my trust.

For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.
