吾不以私智婉言、惟以聖神之良能傳道、

且我講論宣傳、非以人智之婉言而辯、乃以聖神之大能而證、

蓋予之談吐及論道、非恃人智之巧言妙語、惟恃神力之明徵、

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,

I didn’t preach my message with clever and compelling words. Instead, my preaching showed the Holy Spirit’s power.

For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.

For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News— and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power.

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.

They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum.

When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes

They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.

They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.

for I didn’t shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know.

Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.

Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well crafted arguments.

And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.“ There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said,‘ The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

Instead, they have told lies and made false predictions. They say,‘ This message is from the Lord,’ even though the Lord never sent them. And yet they expect him to fulfill their prophecies!

So she seduced him with her pretty speech and enticed him with her flattery.

He got up early every morning and went out to the gate of the city. When people brought a case to the king for judgment, Absalom would ask where in Israel they were from, and they would tell him their tribe.Then Absalom would say,“ You’ve really got a strong case here! It’s too bad the king doesn’t have anyone to hear it.I wish I were the judge. Then everyone could bring their cases to me for judgment, and I would give them justice!”When people tried to bow before him, Absalom wouldn’t let them. Instead, he took them by the hand and kissed them.Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.

And the Lord said,‘ Who can entice King Ahab of Israel to go into battle against Ramoth gilead so he can be killed?’“ There were many suggestions,and finally a spirit approached the Lord and said,‘ I can do it!’“‘ How will you do this?’ the Lord asked.“ And the spirit replied,‘ I will go out and inspire all of Ahab’s prophets to speak lies.’“‘ You will succeed,’ said the Lord.‘ Go ahead and do it.’

Agrippa interrupted him.“ Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?”

On the fourth day they said to Samson’s wife,“ Entice your husband to explain the riddle for us, or we will burn down your father’s house with you in it. Did you invite us to this party just to make us poor?”

A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers.

I have heard the many rumors about me. They call me“ The Man Who Lives in Terror.” They threaten,“ If you say anything, we will report it.” Even my old friends are watching me, waiting for a fatal slip.“ He will trap himself,” they say,“ and then we will get our revenge on him.”

“ This will happen because these evil prophets deceive my people by saying,‘ All is peaceful’ when there is no peace at all! It’s as if the people have built a flimsy wall, and these prophets are trying to reinforce it by covering it with whitewash!Tell these whitewashers that their wall will soon fall down. A heavy rainstorm will undermine it; great hailstones and mighty winds will knock it down.

The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said,“ Entice Samson to tell you what makes him so strong and how he can be overpowered and tied up securely. Then each of us will give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”

Yes, my lord the king will give us peace of mind again.’ I know that you are like an angel of God in discerning good from evil. May the Lord your God be with you.”“ I must know one thing,” the king replied,“ and tell me the truth.”“ Yes, my lord the king,” she responded.“ Did Joab put you up to this?” And the woman replied,“ My lord the king, how can I deny it? Nobody can hide anything from you. Yes, Joab sent me and told me what to say.He did it to place the matter before you in a different light. But you are as wise as an angel of God, and you understand everything that happens among us!”

Meanwhile, the messenger who went to get Micaiah said to him,“ Look, all the prophets are promising victory for the king. Be sure that you agree with them and promise success.”But Micaiah replied,“ As surely as the Lord lives, I will say only what the Lord tells me to say.”
