You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.

And if another believer is distressed by what you eat, you are not acting in love if you eat it. Don’t let your eating ruin someone for whom Christ died.

So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.Don’t tear apart the work of God over what you eat. Remember, all foods are acceptable, but it is wrong to eat something if it makes another person stumble.

We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves.We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you.

Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that“ we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.
