在虚空、消逝如影的人生，短暂的日子里，有谁知道什么是对人有益处呢？谁能告诉人他死后在日光之下会发生什么事呢？

我是在世上作寄居的，求你不要向我隐瞒你的命令。

我们一生的日子都在你的震怒中消逝，我们度尽的年岁好像一声叹息。

亲爱的，我劝你们作客旅和寄居的人，要禁戒肉体的私欲，这私欲是与灵魂争战的。

有声音说：“你呼喊吧！”他问（“他问”或参照《死海古卷》和《七十士译本》翻译为“我说”）：“我呼喊什么呢？”“所有的人尽都如草；他们的荣美都像野地的花。草必枯干，花必凋谢；因为耶和华的气吹在上面；真的，这民的确是草！草必枯干，花必凋谢，唯有我们神的道永远长存。”

这些人都是存着信心死了的，还没有得着所应许的，只不过是从远处看见，就表示欢迎，又承认他们在世上是异乡人，是客旅。因为说这样话的人，是表明他们在寻求一个家乡。如果他们怀念已经离开了的地方，还有可以回去的机会。但是现在他们所向往的，是一个更美的、在天上的家乡。所以，神不以他们称他为神而觉得羞耻；因为他已经为他们预备了一座城。

人不过像一口气，他的年日仿佛影子消逝。

其实明天怎样，你们并不知道。你们的生命是什么呢？你们本来是过眼云烟，转瞬之间就消逝了。
