人生短暂虚空，如影飞逝，有谁知道什么对人有益？谁能告诉人死后日光之下会发生什么事？

我在世上是过客，求你不要向我隐藏你的命令。

亲爱的弟兄姊妹，你们是客旅，是寄居的，我劝你们要禁戒与灵魂为敌的邪情私欲。

有声音说：“呼喊吧！”我问道：“我呼喊什么呢？”那声音说：“芸芸众生尽如草，荣华富贵像野地的花。耶和华吹一口气，草就枯干，花也凋残。人类诚然像草。草必枯干，花必凋残，唯有我们上帝的话永远长存。”

这些人到死都满怀信心。他们虽然没有得到上帝所应许的，却从远处望见了，就欢喜快乐，承认自己在世上不过是寄居的异乡人。他们抱这样的态度，表明他们正在寻找一个家乡。如果他们想念的是自己离开的家乡，就找机会回去了。然而，他们渴慕的是天上更美的家乡。所以，上帝不以被他们称为上帝为耻，因为祂已经为他们预备了一座城。

因为人不过像一口气，他的年日不过像影子转眼消逝。

其实你们根本不知道明天会发生什么事。你们的生命是什么呢？你们只不过像一阵雾气，出现片刻，就无影无踪了。
