The Lord was very angry with Solomon, for his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.He had warned Solomon specifically about worshiping other gods, but Solomon did not listen to the Lord’s command.So now the Lord said to him,“ Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my decrees, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.But for the sake of your father, David, I will not do this while you are still alive. I will take the kingdom away from your son.And even so, I will not take away the entire kingdom; I will let him be king of one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, my chosen city.”

So take this seriously. The Lord has chosen you to build a Temple as his sanctuary. Be strong, and do the work.”

“ Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.

“ Concerning this Temple you are building, if you keep all my decrees and regulations and obey all my commands, I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father, David.I will live among the Israelites and will never abandon my people Israel.”

“ I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man.Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.If you do this, then the Lord will keep the promise he made to me. He told me,‘ If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.’

“ During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever.

And may you be completely faithful to the Lord our God. May you always obey his decrees and commands, just as you are doing today.”

If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.”
