雅比斯比他眾弟兄更尊貴，他母親給他起名叫雅比斯，意思說：我生他甚是痛苦。雅比斯求告以色列的神說：「甚願你賜福與我，擴張我的境界，常與我同在，保佑我不遭患難，不受艱苦。」神就應允他所求的。

你們怎麼說：我們有智慧，耶和華的律法在我們這裏？看哪，文士的假筆舞弄虛假。

這以斯拉從巴比倫上來，他是敏捷的文士，通達耶和華－以色列神所賜摩西的律法書。王允准他一切所求的，是因耶和華－他神的手幫助他。

掃羅對基尼人說：「你們離開亞瑪力人下去吧，恐怕我將你們和亞瑪力人一同殺滅；因為以色列人出埃及的時候，你們曾恩待他們。」於是基尼人離開亞瑪力人去了。
