現在你要對我的僕人大衛說：‘萬軍之耶和華這樣說：我把你從羊圈中選召出來，使你不再跟隨羊群，使你作領袖管治我的子民以色列。

“现在你要告诉我的仆人大卫，‘万军之耶和华说，你原本在草场牧羊，我召你来做我以色列子民的首领。

現在你要對我僕人大衛這樣說：「萬軍之永恆主這麼說：我將你從羊圈中、從趕羊羣的事上選取了來，讓你做人君來管理我人民以色列。

故當謂我僕大衛曰、萬軍之耶和華云、我自羊牢中、羊羣後、取爾為我民以色列之君、

今當告我僕大闢、萬有之主耶和華云、昔爾在羊牢為牧、我特遴選爾、使為我民、以色列族長、

今爾告我僕大衛曰、萬有之主如是云、昔我自羊牢中、自羊群後、召爾立為我民以色列之君、

“ Now then, tell my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

“ So tell my servant David,‘ The Lord who rules over all says,“ I took you away from the grasslands. That is where you were taking care of your father’s sheep and goats. I appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

Now, therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel,

“ Now go and say to my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.

“ So now this is what you are to say to my servant David:‘ This is what the LORD of Armies says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel.

Now, therefore, this is what you shall say to My servant David:‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel:

“ Now this is what you will say to My servant David:‘ This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote,[ even] from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

“ So now, say this to my servant David:‘ This is what the LORD who commands armies says:“ I took you from the pasture and from your work as a shepherd to make you a leader of my people Israel.

“ Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David,‘ Yahweh of Armies says,“ I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel.

大衛對米甲說：“我是在耶和華面前跳舞（《馬索拉文本》無“跳舞”；現參照《七十士譯本》補上）；耶和華揀選了我，使我高過你父親和他的全家，立我作耶和華的子民以色列的領袖，所以我要在耶和華面前跳舞作樂。

‘猶大地的伯利恆啊！你在猶大的領袖中，並不是最小的，因為必有一位領袖從你那裡出來，牧養我的子民以色列。’”

大衛有時離開掃羅，回到伯利恆牧放他父親的羊群。

他揀選了自己的僕人大衛，把他從羊圈中召出來；他領他出來，使他不再跟著那些母羊，卻要牧養他的子民雅各，和他的產業以色列。

西門的夥伴，西庇太的兒子雅各、約翰也是這樣。耶穌對西門說：“不要怕！從今以後，你要作得人的漁夫了。”

耶穌在加利利海邊行走的時候，看見兄弟二人，就是名叫彼得的西門和他的弟弟安得烈，正在把網撒到海裡去；他們是漁夫。耶穌就對他們說：“來跟從我，我要使你們作得人的漁夫。”他們立刻撇下網，跟從了他。耶穌又往前走，看見另一對兄弟，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他的兄弟約翰，正和父親西庇太在船上整理魚網，他就呼召他們。他們立刻離了船，別了父親，跟從了耶穌。

撒母耳問耶西：“孩子們全都在這裡嗎？”耶西回答：“還有一個最小的，正在牧羊。”撒母耳對耶西說：“你派人去把他帶回來，因為他沒有來到以前，我們決不入席。”耶西就派人去把大衛帶回來。他面色紅潤，眼目清秀，外貌英俊。耶和華說：“就是這一個，你起來膏立他吧！”

現在你要對我的僕人大衛這樣說：‘萬軍之耶和華這樣說：我把你從牧場中、從照顧羊群的工作中揀選出來，使你作我子民以色列的領袖，

阿摩司回答亞瑪謝說：“我原不是先知，也不是先知的門徒；我本是牧人，是修理桑樹的，但耶和華選召我，叫我不再跟隨羊群；他對我說：‘你去，向我民以色列說預言。’

那時，摩西正在牧放他岳父米甸祭司葉忒羅的羊群。有一次，他把羊群領到曠野的盡頭去，到了神的山，就是何烈山。耶和華的使者從荊棘叢裡的火燄中向摩西顯現。摩西觀看，看見荊棘被火燒著，卻沒有燒毀。摩西說：“我要到那邊去，看看這大異象，這荊棘為甚麼燒不掉？”耶和華見摩西要到那邊去觀看，神就從荊棘叢裡呼叫他，說：“摩西，摩西。”摩西說：“我在這裡。”耶和華說：“不可過到這裡來；要把你腳上的鞋脫掉，因為你所站的地方是聖地。”又說：“我是你父親的神、亞伯拉罕的神、以撒的神、雅各的神。”摩西因為怕見神，就把自己的臉蒙住了。耶和華說：“我的子民在埃及所受的痛苦，我實在看見了；他們因受督工的轄制所發的呼聲，我也聽見了；他們的痛苦，我是知道的。所以我下來，要救他們脫離埃及人的手，領他們脫離那地，到美好寬闊之地，到流奶與蜜之地，就是到迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人的地方。現在以色列人的呼聲已經達到我的面前，我也看見了埃及人對他們所施的壓迫。所以現在你來，我要派你到法老那裡去，使你可以把我的人民以色列人從埃及領出來。”
