for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another.

I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

Yahweh says,“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says Yahweh:“ but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.

“ But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place, in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

They brought up Yahweh’s ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent. The priests and the Levites brought these up.

“ Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen;which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered into the possession of the nations, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, to the days of David,who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.But Solomon built him a house.However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says,‘ heaven is my throne, and the earth a footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build me?’ says the Lord.‘ Or what is the place of my rest?Didn’t my hand make all these things?’

But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house that I have built!
