I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

天和天上的天，尚且不足他居住，誰能為他建造殿宇呢？我是誰，能為他建造殿宇嗎？不過在他面前燒香而已！

耶和華如此說：「天是我的座位；地是我的腳凳。你們能為我造怎樣的殿宇呢？哪裏是我安歇的地方呢？這一切是我手所造的，這一切就都存在了。我所看顧的是困苦、靈裏痛悔、因我言語而戰兢的人。這是耶和華說的。

「上帝果真與世人同住在地上嗎？看哪，天和天上的天尚且不足容納你，何況我所建的這殿呢？

眾人將耶和華的約櫃請進去，安放在所預備的地方，就是大衛為它搭的帳幕中。大衛在耶和華面前獻燔祭和平安祭。

祭司和利未人將耶和華的約櫃請上來，又把會幕和會幕一切的聖器皿都帶上來。

「我們的祖宗在曠野，有作證的會幕，是上帝吩咐摩西照着他所看見的樣式做的。這帳幕，我們的祖宗同約書亞相繼承受了，當上帝在他們面前趕走外邦人的時候，他們把這帳幕搬進承受為業之地，直存到大衛的日子。大衛在上帝面前蒙恩，祈求為雅各的家預備居所。但卻是所羅門為上帝造成殿宇。其實，至高者並不住人手所造的，就如先知所言：『主說：天是我的寶座，地是我的腳凳。你們要為我造怎樣的殿宇？哪裏是我安歇的地方呢？這一切不都是我手所造的嗎？』
