I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

‘自从我把我的子民以色列领出埃及的日子以来，我未曾在以色列的各支派中拣选一座城，建造殿宇，作我名的居所；但我拣选了大卫治理我的子民以色列。’

但谁能为他建造殿宇呢？天和天上的天也容不下他；我是谁，怎能为他建造殿宇？我不过在他面前烧香罢了。

耶和华这样说：“天是我的宝座，地是我的脚凳；你们要在哪里为我建造殿宇呢？怎样的地方才是我安息的所在呢？”耶和华说：“这一切都是我亲手所造的，所以它们就有了。以下这种人是我要垂顾的，就是谦卑、心灵伤痛、因我的话而战兢的人。

“神真的要和人住在地上吗？看哪，天和天上的天也容不下你，何况我建造的这殿呢？

他们把耶和华的约柜抬进去，安放在帐棚里它自己的地方，就是安放在大卫给它支搭的帐棚里，大卫就在耶和华面前献上燔祭和平安祭。

祭司和利未人把耶和华的约柜、会幕和会幕里的一切圣器具都运上来。

“我们的祖先在旷野有作证的帐幕，就是跟摩西谈话的那位指示他，依照他看见的样式做的。我们的祖先相继承受了这帐幕，神把外族人从他们面前赶走以后，他们就同约书亚把帐幕带进所得为业的地方，直到大卫的日子。大卫在神面前蒙了恩，就求为雅各的神找个居所，而由所罗门为他建造殿宇。其实至高者并不住人手所造的，正如先知说：‘主说：天是我的宝座，地是我的脚凳，你们要为我建造怎样的殿呢？哪里是我安息的地方呢？这一切不都是我手所造的吗？’

“神真的住在地上吗？看哪！天和天上的天尚且不能容纳你，何况我建造的这殿呢？
