and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.“‘ I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you:

That is what your enemies have done ever since I appointed leaders over my people Israel. But I will bring all your enemies under your control.“‘ “I tell you that I, the Lord, will build a royal house for your family.

In his anger against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the Lord was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders.Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands.Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them. Not a blacksmith could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said,“ Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears!”So all Israel went down to the Philistines to have their plow points, mattocks, axes and sickles sharpened. (niv)

The Philistines assembled to fight Israel, with three thousand chariots, six thousand charioteers, and soldiers as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They went up and camped at Mikmash, east of Beth Aven.When the Israelites saw that their situation was critical and that their army was hard pressed, they hid in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in pits and cisterns. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. (niv)

The Lord says to my lord:“ Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” (niv)

Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever. Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples invaded the country.They camped on the land and ruined the crops all the way to Gaza and did not spare a living thing for Israel, neither sheep nor cattle nor donkeys.They came up with their livestock and their tents like swarms of locusts. It was impossible to count them or their camels; they invaded the land to ravage it.Midian so impoverished the Israelites that they cried out to the Lord for help. (niv)

The anger of the Lord burned against Israel so that he sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim, to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years. (niv)

Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help. (niv)
