And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Jehovah was against them for evil, as Jehovah had spoken, and as Jehovah had sworn unto them: and they were sore distressed.And Jehovah raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those that despoiled them.And yet they hearkened not unto their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods, and bowed themselves down unto them: they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of Jehovah; but they did not so.And when Jehovah raised them up judges, then Jehovah was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Jehovah because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea- shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth- aven.When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait( for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits.

For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.

Jehovah saith unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them households.

Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, That I might cut off them that hate me.They cried, but there was none to save; Even unto Jehovah, but he answered them not.Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the mire of the streets.Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; Thou hast made me the head of the nations: A people whom I have not known shall serve me.As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me; The foreigners shall submit themselves unto me.The foreigners shall fade away, And shall come trembling out of their close places.Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation,Even the God that executeth vengeance for me, And subdueth peoples under me.He rescueth me from mine enemies; Yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me; Thou deliverest me from the violent man.Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah, among the nations, And will sing praises unto thy name.Great deliverance giveth he to his king, And showeth lovingkindness to his anointed, To David and to his seed, for evermore.

And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east; they came up against them;and they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance in Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.For they came up with their cattle and their tents; they came in as locusts for multitude; both they and their camels were without number: and they came into the land to destroy it.And Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah.

Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan- rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Cushan- rishathaim eight years.

And the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
