基列．耶琳人就前來，把耶和華的約櫃抬上去；他們把它抬到山上亞比拿達的家中，又把他的兒子以利亞撒分別為聖，看守耶和華的約櫃。約櫃停留在基列．耶琳很久，有二十年之久，以色列全家都痛悔尋求耶和華。

大衛知道掃羅設計害他，就對亞比亞他祭司說：“把以弗得拿來！”大衛說：“耶和華以色列的神啊！你僕人確實聽見了掃羅想要到基伊拉來，為了我的緣故要毀滅這城。基伊拉人會把我交在掃羅的手裡嗎？掃羅會照著你僕人所聽到的下來嗎？耶和華以色列的神啊！求你告訴你僕人。”耶和華說：“他必下來。”大衛又說：“基伊拉人會把我和跟隨我的人交在掃羅手裡嗎？”耶和華說：“他們必把你們交出來。”

大衛就求問耶和華說：“我可以去擊打這些非利士人嗎？”耶和華對大衛說：“你可以去擊打非利士人，拯救基伊拉。”

掃羅說：“我們趁著晚上下去追趕非利士人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不讓他們留下一人。”他們說：“你看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧！”但祭司說：“我們先在這裡親近神！”

我豈是今天才開始為他求問神的呢？絕對不是。請王不要歸罪於我和我父的全家，因為這整件事無論大小，我都不知道。”

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，給他糧食，又把非利士人歌利亞的刀給他。”
