When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There he made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel. It happened just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

So there at Hebron, David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel, just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

耶西就打發人去領他來：他臉色赤紅：雙目清秀，丰采俊美。永恆主說：『這一個就是了；你起來膏他。』撒母耳就拿了油角，在他哥哥們中間膏了他；從那一天起、永恆主的靈就大大感動大衛。於是撒母耳起身、往拉瑪去了。

永恆主對撒母耳說：『我棄絕了掃羅做以色列的王，你為他悲傷要到幾時呢？把你的角盛滿了膏油吧！來，我差遣你到伯利恆人耶西那裏去，因為我在他的兒子當中已經看定了一個作王的。』

猶大人就來，在那裏膏立了大衛做王來管理猶大家。有人告訴大衛說：『埋葬掃羅的是基列雅比人。』

你請耶西來赴祭筵，我就指示你所當行的：我對你說明甚麼人，你就為我膏立甚麼人好啦。』

於是以色列眾長老都到希伯崙來見大衛王；大衛王在希伯崙永恆主面前和他們立約，他們就膏立了大衛做王來管理以色列。

耶何耶大使王和人民與永恆主之間立了約，要做永恆主的人民；又使王與人民之間也立了約。

於是耶弗他和基列的長老一同去，人民就立耶弗他做首領、做將軍、來管理他們；耶弗他將自己的一切話在米斯巴永恆主面前都說明出來。

全體大眾在上帝殿裏同王立約。耶何耶大對他們說：『看哪，王的兒子，他必須作王，照永恆主論大衛子孫所說過的。

永恆主已照由我經手所說的話來辦你；永恆主已從你手中撕去了國權，給你鄰近的人大衛。

眾民就都到吉甲去，便在吉甲那裏、永恆主面前設立了掃羅為王；也在那裏在永恆主面前獻平安祭；在那裏掃羅和以色列眾人都非常歡喜。

他的臣僕用車載他的死屍，從米吉多送到耶路撒冷，將他埋葬在他自己的墳墓裏，猶大地的人民將約西亞的兒子約哈斯膏了油，設立為王，來接替他父親。

於是二人在永恆主面前立了約；大衛仍住在何列沙，約拿單卻回家去了。

撒母耳對他說：『今天永恆主從你身上撕去了以色列國，給你鄰近的人、就是比你好的。
