the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah.The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.” (niv)

Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scatteredand the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha. (niv)

So the field and the cave in it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site. (niv)

Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites. He said, (niv)

Then Rebekah said to Isaac,“ I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.” (niv)

I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. (niv)
