Psalm 107
Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance
1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
2Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim
3and has gathered them from the lands —
from the east and the west,
4Some wandered in the desolate wilderness,
5They were hungry and thirsty;
their spirits failed107:5 Lit their soul fainted within them.107:5 Ps 77:3
6Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he rescued them from their distress.107:6 Ps 106:44
7He led them by the right path
to go to a city where they could live.107:7 Jr 31:9
8Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.107:8 Ps 75:1
9For he has satisfied the thirsty
10Others sat in darkness and gloom107:10 Or the shadow of death, also in v. 14 —
11because they rebelled against God’s commands
12He broke their spirits107:12 Lit hearts with hard labor;
13Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he saved them from their distress.107:13 Ex 2:23–25
14He brought them out of darkness and gloom
and broke their chains apart.107:14 Jr 2:20
15Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.107:15 Ps 75:1
16For he has broken down the bronze gates
and cut through the iron bars.107:16 Is 45:1–2
17Fools suffered affliction
because of their rebellious ways and their iniquities.107:17 Jr 30:14–15
18They loathed all food
and came near the gates of death.107:18 Jb 33:20

conducting trade on the vast water.107:23 Is 42:10
24They saw the Lord’s works,
his wondrous works in the deep.107:24 Is 33:21
25He spoke and raised a stormy wind
26Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,
27they reeled and staggered like a drunkard,
28Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
29He stilled the storm to a whisper,

34and fruitful land into salty wasteland,
because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.107:34 Gn 19:24–28; Dt 29:23
35He turns a desert into a pool,
36He causes the hungry to settle there,
37They sow fields and plant vineyards
he does not let their livestock decrease.107:38 Dt 7:14
39When they are diminished and are humbled
by cruel oppression and sorrow,107:39 Ps 44:25
and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.107:40 Jb 12:24
41But he lifts the needy out of their suffering107:41 1Sm 2:8; Ps 113:7–8
and makes their families multiply like flocks.107:41 Jb 21:11
and all injustice shuts its mouth.107:42 Jb 5:16
43Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things
