Isaiah 1:11 - “What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?” says the Lord. “I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle. I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
Isaiah 1:12 - When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony?
Romans 14:17 - For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:18 - If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too.
Romans 14:6 - Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God.
Romans 14:7 - For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves.
Romans 14:8 - If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
Romans 14:9 - Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.
Zechariah 7:3 - They were to ask this question of the prophets and the priests at the Temple of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “Should we continue to mourn and fast each summer on the anniversary of the Temple’s destruction, as we have done for so many years?”
Isaiah 58:4 - What good is fasting when you keep on fighting and quarreling? This kind of fasting will never get you anywhere with me.
Isaiah 58:5 - You humble yourselves by going through the motions of penance, bowing your heads like reeds bending in the wind. You dress in burlap and cover yourselves with ashes. Is this what you call fasting? Do you really think this will please the Lord?
Isaiah 58:6 - “No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.
Zechariah 1:12 - Upon hearing this, the angel of the Lord prayed this prayer: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, for seventy years now you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. How long until you again show mercy to them?”
