  • Numbers 32:23 - But if you don’t do this, you will certainly sin against the Lord; be sure your sin will catch up with you.
  • Numbers 32:24 - Build cities for your dependents and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”
  • Numbers 32:25 - The Gadites and Reubenites answered Moses, “Your servants will do just as my lord commands.
  • Numbers 32:26 - Our dependents, wives, livestock, and all our animals will remain here in the cities of Gilead,
  • Numbers 32:27 - but your servants are equipped for war before the Lord and will go across to the battle as my lord orders.”
  • Numbers 32:28 - So Moses gave orders about them to the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the family heads of the Israelite tribes.
  • Numbers 32:29 - Moses told them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, every man in battle formation before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, you are to give them the land of Gilead as a possession.
  • Numbers 32:30 - But if they don’t go across with you in battle formation, they must accept land in Canaan with you.”
  • Numbers 32:31 - The Gadites and Reubenites replied, “What the Lord has spoken to your servants is what we will do.
  • Numbers 32:32 - We will cross over in battle formation before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but we will keep our hereditary possession across the Jordan.”
  • Numbers 32:33 - So Moses gave them — the Gadites, Reubenites, and half the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph — the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites and the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, the land including its cities with the territories surrounding them.
  • Numbers 32:34 - The Gadites rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
  • Numbers 32:35 - Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
  • Numbers 32:36 - Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran as fortified cities, and built sheep pens.
  • Numbers 32:37 - The Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
  • Numbers 32:38 - as well as Nebo and Baal-meon (whose names were changed), and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.
  • Numbers 32:39 - The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it, and drove out the Amorites who were there.
  • Numbers 32:40 - So Moses gave Gilead to the clan of Machir son of Manasseh, and they settled in it.
  • Numbers 32:41 - Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, went and captured their villages, which he renamed Jair’s Villages.
  • Numbers 32:42 - Nobah went and captured Kenath with its surrounding villages and called it Nobah after his own name.
  • Judges 10:1 - After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo became judge and began to deliver Israel. He was from Issachar and lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.
  • Judges 10:2 - Tola judged Israel twenty-three years and when he died, was buried in Shamir.
  • Judges 10:3 - After him came Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.
  • Judges 10:4 - He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. They had thirty towns in Gilead, which are still called Jair’s Villages today.
  • Judges 10:5 - When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon.
  • Judges 10:6 - Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not worship him.
  • Judges 10:7 - So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them to the Philistines and the Ammonites.
  • Judges 10:8 - They shattered and crushed the Israelites that year, and for eighteen years they did the same to all the Israelites who were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorites in Gilead.
  • Judges 10:9 - The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim. Israel was greatly oppressed,
  • Judges 10:10 - so they cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against you. We have abandoned our God and worshiped the Baals.”

  • 1 Chronicles 5:11 - The sons of Gad lived next to them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah:
  • 1 Chronicles 5:12 - Joel the chief, Shapham the second in command, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

  • 1 Chronicles 5:17 - All of them were registered in the genealogies during the reigns of Judah’s King Jotham and Israel’s King Jeroboam.
  • 1 Chronicles 5:18 - The descendants of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 warriors who could serve in the army — men who carried shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for war.
  • 1 Chronicles 5:19 - They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.
  • 1 Chronicles 5:20 - They received help against these enemies because they cried out to God in battle, and the Hagrites and all their allies were handed over to them. He was receptive to their prayer because they trusted in him.
  • 1 Chronicles 5:21 - They captured the Hagrites’ livestock — fifty thousand of their camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand donkeys — as well as one hundred thousand people.
  • 1 Chronicles 5:22 - Many of the Hagrites were killed because it was God’s battle. And they lived there in the Hagrites’ place until the exile.
  • Genesis 46:16 - Gad’s sons: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

  • 1 Chronicles 5:26 - So the God of Israel roused the spirit of King Pul (that is, Tiglath-pileser ) of Assyria, and he took the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and Gozan’s river, where they are until today.
