- Genesis 34:10 - You may live among us, and the land will be open to you. Live in it, travel freely in it, and acquire property in it.”
- Genesis 34:11 - Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your sight, and whatever you require of me I’ll give.
- Genesis 34:12 - You can make the bride price and the gift I must bring very expensive, and I’ll give whatever you ask of me. Just give me the young woman as my wife!”
- Genesis 34:13 - Jacob’s sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully when they spoke because Shechem had violated their sister Dinah.
- Genesis 34:14 - They said to them, “We cannot give our sister to a man who is not circumcised, for it would be a disgrace to us.
- Genesis 34:15 - We will give you our consent on this one condition: You must become like us by circumcising all your males.
- Genesis 34:16 - Then we will give you our daughters to marry, and we will take your daughters as wives for ourselves, and we will live among you and become one people.
- Genesis 34:17 - But if you do not agree to our terms by being circumcised, then we will take our sister and depart.”
- Genesis 34:18 - Their offer pleased Hamor and his son Shechem.
- Genesis 34:19 - The young man did not delay in doing what they asked because he wanted Jacob’s daughter Dinah badly. (Now he was more important than anyone in his father’s household.)
- Genesis 34:20 - So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city,
- Genesis 34:21 - “These men are at peace with us. So let them live in the land and travel freely in it, for the land is wide enough for them. We will take their daughters for wives, and we will give them our daughters to marry.
- Genesis 34:22 - Only on this one condition will these men consent to live with us and become one people: They demand that every male among us be circumcised just as they are circumcised.
- Genesis 34:23 - If we do so, won’t their livestock, their property, and all their animals become ours? So let’s consent to their demand, so they will live among us.”
- Genesis 34:24 - All the men who assembled at the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem. Every male who assembled at the city gate was circumcised.
- Genesis 34:25 - In three days, when they were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword and went to the unsuspecting city and slaughtered every male.

- Numbers 1:2 - “Take a census of the entire Israelite community by their clans and families, counting the name of every individual male.
- Numbers 1:3 - You and Aaron are to number all in Israel who can serve in the army, those who are twenty years old or older, by their divisions.

- Numbers 1:14 - from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;
- Numbers 1:15 - from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”
- Numbers 1:16 - These were the ones chosen from the community, leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

- Numbers 1:28 - From the descendants of Issachar: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:29 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Issachar were 54,400.
- Numbers 1:30 - From the descendants of Zebulun: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:31 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Zebulun were 57,400.
- Numbers 1:32 - From the sons of Joseph: From the descendants of Ephraim: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:33 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Ephraim were 40,500.
- Numbers 1:34 - From the descendants of Manasseh: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:35 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Manasseh were 32,200.
- Numbers 1:36 - From the descendants of Benjamin: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:37 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Benjamin were 35,400.
- Numbers 1:38 - From the descendants of Dan: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:39 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Dan were 62,700.
- Numbers 1:40 - From the descendants of Asher: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:41 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Asher were 41,500.
- Numbers 1:42 - From the descendants of Naphtali: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
- Numbers 1:43 - Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Naphtali were 53,400.
- Numbers 1:44 - These were the men whom Moses and Aaron numbered along with the twelve leaders of Israel, each of whom was from his own family.
- Numbers 1:45 - All the Israelites who were twenty years old or older, who could serve in Israel’s army, were numbered according to their families.
- Numbers 1:46 - And all those numbered totaled 603,550.
- Numbers 1:47 - But the Levites, according to the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.
- Numbers 1:48 - The Lord had said to Moses,
- Numbers 1:49 - “Only the tribe of Levi you must not number or count with the other Israelites.
- Numbers 1:50 - But appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, over all its furnishings and over everything in it. They must carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they must attend to it and camp around it.
- Numbers 1:51 - Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites must take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be reassembled, the Levites must set it up. Any unauthorized person who approaches it must be killed.
- Numbers 1:52 - “The Israelites will camp according to their divisions, each man in his camp, and each man by his standard.
- Numbers 1:53 - But the Levites must camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that the Lord’s anger will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the testimony.”
- Numbers 1:54 - The Israelites did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses – that is what they did.
- Genesis 35:23 - The sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, as well as Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
- Numbers 10:1 - The Lord spoke to Moses:
- Numbers 10:2 - “Make two trumpets of silver; you are to make them from a single hammered piece. You will use them for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps.
- Numbers 10:3 - When they blow them both, all the community must come to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting.
- Numbers 10:4 - “But if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you.
- Numbers 10:5 - When you blow an alarm, then the camps that are located on the east side must begin to travel.
- Numbers 10:6 - And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel. An alarm must be sounded for their journeys.
- Numbers 10:7 - But when you assemble the community, you must blow, but you must not sound an alarm.
- Numbers 10:8 - The sons of Aaron, the priests, must blow the trumpets; and they will be to you for an eternal ordinance throughout your generations.
- Numbers 10:9 - If you go to war in your land against an adversary who opposes you, then you must sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.
- Numbers 10:10 - “Also in the time when you rejoice, such as on your appointed festivals or at the beginnings of your months, you must blow with your trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, so that they may become a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God.”
- Numbers 10:11 - On the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle of the testimony.
- Numbers 10:12 - So the Israelites set out on their journeys from the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud settled in the wilderness of Paran.
- Numbers 10:13 - This was the first time they set out on their journey according to the commandment of the Lord, by the authority of Moses.
- Numbers 10:14 - The standard of the camp of the Judahites set out first according to their companies, and over his company was Nahshon son of Amminadab.
- Numbers 10:15 - Over the company of the tribe of Issacharites was Nathanel son of Zuar,
- Numbers 10:16 - and over the company of the tribe of the Zebulunites was Elion son of Helon.
- Numbers 10:17 - Then the tabernacle was dismantled, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.
- Numbers 10:18 - The standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their companies; over his company was Elizur son of Shedeur.
- Numbers 10:19 - Over the company of the tribe of the Simeonites was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,
- Numbers 10:20 - and over the company of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel.
- Numbers 10:21 - And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary; the tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.
- Numbers 10:22 - And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud.
- Numbers 10:23 - Over the company of the tribe of the Manassehites was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,
- Numbers 10:24 - and over the company of the tribe of Benjaminites was Abidan son of Gideoni.
- Numbers 10:25 - The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
- Numbers 10:26 - Over the company of the tribe of the Asherites was Pagiel son of Ocran,
- Numbers 10:27 - and over the company of the tribe of the Naphtalites was Ahira son of Enan.
- Numbers 10:28 - These were the traveling arrangements of the Israelites according to their companies when they traveled.
- Numbers 10:29 - Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things for Israel.”
- Numbers 10:30 - But Hobab said to him, “I will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred.”
- Numbers 10:31 - Moses said, “Do not leave us, because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide.
- Numbers 10:32 - And if you come with us, it is certain that whatever good things the Lord will favor us with, we will share with you as well.”
- Numbers 10:33 - So they traveled from the mountain of the Lord three days’ journey; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord was traveling before them during the three days’ journey, to find a resting place for them.
- Numbers 10:34 - And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day, when they traveled from the camp.
- Numbers 10:35 - And when the ark traveled, Moses would say, “Rise up, O Lord! May your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you!”
- Numbers 10:36 - And when it came to rest he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the many thousands of Israel!”
- Genesis 29:32 - So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “The Lord has looked with pity on my oppressed condition. Surely my husband will love me now.”
- Genesis 29:33 - She became pregnant again and had another son. She said, “Because the Lord heard that I was unloved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.
- Genesis 29:34 - She became pregnant again and had another son. She said, “Now this time my husband will show me affection, because I have given birth to three sons for him.” That is why he was named Levi.
- Genesis 29:35 - She became pregnant again and had another son. She said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” That is why she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.
- Genesis 30:17 - God paid attention to Leah; she became pregnant and gave Jacob a son for the fifth time.
- Genesis 30:18 - Then Leah said, “God has granted me a reward because I gave my servant to my husband as a wife.” So she named him Issachar.
- Genesis 30:19 - Leah became pregnant again and gave Jacob a son for the sixth time.
- Genesis 30:20 - Then Leah said, “God has given me a good gift. Now my husband will honor me because I have given him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.
- Genesis 30:21 - After that she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.
