- Deuteronomy 29:21 - The Lord will separate them from all the tribes of Israel, to pour out on them all the curses of the covenant recorded in this Book of Instruction.
- Deuteronomy 29:22 - “Then the generations to come, both your own descendants and the foreigners who come from distant lands, will see the devastation of the land and the diseases the Lord inflicts on it.
- Deuteronomy 29:23 - They will exclaim, ‘The whole land is devastated by sulfur and salt. It is a wasteland with nothing planted and nothing growing, not even a blade of grass. It is like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord destroyed in his intense anger.’
- Deuteronomy 29:24 - “And all the surrounding nations will ask, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this land? Why was he so angry?’
- Deuteronomy 29:25 - “And the answer will be, ‘This happened because the people of the land abandoned the covenant that the Lord, the God of their ancestors, made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
- Deuteronomy 29:26 - Instead, they turned away to serve and worship gods they had not known before, gods that were not from the Lord.
- Deuteronomy 29:27 - That is why the Lord’s anger has burned against this land, bringing down on it every curse recorded in this book.
- Deuteronomy 29:28 - In great anger and fury the Lord uprooted his people from their land and banished them to another land, where they still live today!’
- Isaiah 37:2 - And he sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the court secretary, and the leading priests, all dressed in burlap, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.
- Isaiah 37:3 - They told him, “This is what King Hezekiah says: Today is a day of trouble, insults, and disgrace. It is like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to deliver the baby.
- Isaiah 37:4 - But perhaps the Lord your God has heard the Assyrian chief of staff, sent by the king to defy the living God, and will punish him for his words. Oh, pray for those of us who are left!”
- Deuteronomy 28:15 - “But if you refuse to listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you:
- 1 Samuel 9:9 - (In those days if people wanted a message from God, they would say, “Let’s go and ask the seer,” for prophets used to be called seers.)
- Romans 2:8 - But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.
- Romans 2:9 - There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.
- Romans 2:10 - But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.
- Romans 2:11 - For God does not show favoritism.
- Romans 2:12 - When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.
- 2 Chronicles 28:6 - In a single day Pekah son of Remaliah, Israel’s king, killed 120,000 of Judah’s troops, all of them experienced warriors, because they had abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors.
- Ezekiel 14:1 - Then some of the leaders of Israel visited me, and while they were sitting with me,
- Ezekiel 14:2 - this message came to me from the Lord:
- Ezekiel 14:3 - “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests?
- Ezekiel 14:4 - Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin, and then they go to a prophet asking for a message. So I, the Lord, will give them the kind of answer their great idolatry deserves.
- Ezekiel 14:5 - I will do this to capture the minds and hearts of all my people who have turned from me to worship their detestable idols.’
- Ezekiel 14:6 - “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins.
- Ezekiel 14:7 - I, the Lord, will answer all those, both Israelites and foreigners, who reject me and set up idols in their hearts and so fall into sin, and who then come to a prophet asking for my advice.
- Ezekiel 14:8 - I will turn against such people and make a terrible example of them, eliminating them from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
- Ezekiel 14:9 - “‘And if a prophet is deceived into giving a message, it is because I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet. I will lift my fist against such prophets and cut them off from the community of Israel.
- Ezekiel 14:10 - False prophets and those who seek their guidance will all be punished for their sins.
- Ezekiel 14:11 - In this way, the people of Israel will learn not to stray from me, polluting themselves with sin. They will be my people, and I will be their God. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!’”
- Jeremiah 21:2 - “Please speak to the Lord for us and ask him to help us. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is attacking Judah. Perhaps the Lord will be gracious and do a mighty miracle as he has done in the past. Perhaps he will force Nebuchadnezzar to withdraw his armies.”
