  • 1 Kings 18:21 - Elijah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you waver between the two sides? If Yahweh is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people didn’t say a word.
  • 1 Kings 18:22 - Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left as a prophet of Yahweh; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred fifty men.
  • 1 Kings 18:23 - Let them therefore give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under it.
  • 1 Kings 18:24 - You call on the name of your god, and I will call on Yahweh’s name. The God who answers by fire, let him be God.” All the people answered, “What you say is good.”
  • 1 Kings 18:25 - Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one bull for yourselves, and dress it first; for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.”
  • 1 Kings 18:26 - They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, “Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, and nobody answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.
  • 1 Kings 18:27 - At noon, Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud; for he is a god. Either he is deep in thought, or he has gone somewhere, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.”
  • 1 Kings 18:28 - They cried aloud, and cut themselves in their way with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.
  • 1 Kings 18:29 - When midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the evening offering; but there was no voice, no answer, and nobody paid attention.
  • 1 Kings 18:30 - Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me!”; and all the people came near to him. He repaired Yahweh’s altar that had been thrown down.
  • 1 Kings 18:31 - Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom Yahweh’s word came, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”
  • 1 Kings 18:32 - With the stones he built an altar in Yahweh’s name. He made a trench around the altar, large enough to contain two seahs of seed.
  • 1 Kings 18:33 - He put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood. He said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the wood.”
  • 1 Kings 18:34 - He said, “Do it a second time;” and they did it the second time. He said, “Do it a third time;” and they did it the third time.
  • 1 Kings 18:35 - The water ran around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water.
  • 1 Kings 18:36 - At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.
  • 1 Kings 18:37 - Hear me, Yahweh, hear me, that this people may know that you, Yahweh, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”
  • 1 Kings 18:38 - Then Yahweh’s fire fell, and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
  • 1 Kings 18:39 - When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. They said, “Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!”
  • 1 Kings 18:40 - Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Don’t let one of them escape!” They seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and killed them there.
  • Psalms 65:9 - You visit the earth, and water it. You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of water. You provide them grain, for so you have ordained it.
  • Psalms 65:10 - You drench its furrows. You level its ridges. You soften it with showers. You bless it with a crop.

  • Jeremiah 14:22 - Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.
  • Jeremiah 10:13 - When he utters his voice, the waters in the heavens roar, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.
  • Amos 4:7 - “I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One place was rained on, and the piece where it didn’t rain withered.
  • 1 Kings 18:2 - Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.
  • Revelation 11:6 - These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

  • 1 Kings 17:1 - Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”
  • Deuteronomy 28:12 - Yahweh will open to you his good treasure in the sky, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.
  • Luke 4:25 - But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
  • James 5:17 - Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.
