  • 1 Kings 13:1 - Just then a prophet from Judah, sent by the Lord, arrived in Bethel, as Jeroboam was standing near the altar ready to offer a sacrifice.
  • 1 Kings 13:2 - With the authority of the Lord he cried out against the altar, “O altar, altar! This is what the Lord says, ‘Look, a son named Josiah will be born to the Davidic dynasty. He will sacrifice on you the priests of the high places who offer sacrifices on you. Human bones will be burned on you.’”
  • 1 Kings 13:3 - That day he also announced a sign, “This is the sign the Lord has predetermined: The altar will be split open and the ashes on it will fall to the ground.”
  • 1 Kings 13:4 - When the king heard what the prophet cried out against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam, standing at the altar, extended his hand and ordered, “Seize him!” The hand he had extended shriveled up and he could not pull it back.
  • 1 Kings 13:5 - The altar split open and the ashes fell from the altar to the ground, in fulfillment of the sign the prophet had announced with the Lord’s authority.
  • 1 Kings 13:6 - The king pled with the prophet, “Seek the favor of the Lord your God and pray for me, so that my hand may be restored.” So the prophet sought the Lord’s favor and the king’s hand was restored to its former condition.
  • 1 Kings 13:7 - The king then said to the prophet, “Come home with me and have something to eat. I’d like to give a present.”
  • 1 Kings 13:8 - But the prophet said to the king, “Even if you were to give me half your possessions, I could not go with you and eat and drink in this place.
  • 1 Kings 13:9 - For the Lord gave me strict orders, ‘Do not eat or drink there and do not go home the way you came.’”
  • 1 Kings 13:10 - So he started back on another road; he did not travel back on the same road he had taken to Bethel.
  • 1 Kings 12:20 - When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. No one except the tribe of Judah remained loyal to the Davidic dynasty.
  • 1 Kings 12:21 - When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he summoned 180,000 skilled warriors from all of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin to attack Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.
  • 1 Kings 12:22 - But God told Shemaiah the prophet,
  • 1 Kings 12:23 - “Say this to King Rehoboam son of Solomon of Judah, and to all Judah and Benjamin, as well as the rest of the people,
  • 1 Kings 12:24 - ‘The Lord says this: “Do not attack and make war with your brothers, the Israelites. Each of you go home, for I have caused this to happen.”’” They obeyed the Lord and went home as the Lord had ordered them to do.
  • 1 Kings 21:22 - I will make your dynasty like those of Jeroboam son of Nebat and Baasha son of Ahijah because you angered me and made Israel sin.’
  • 1 Kings 15:30 - This happened because of the sins which Jeroboam committed and which he made Israel commit. These sins angered the Lord God of Israel.
  • 1 Kings 16:3 - So I am ready to burn up Baasha and his family, and make your family like the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat.
  • Genesis 35:16 - They traveled on from Bethel, and when Ephrath was still some distance away, Rachel went into labor – and her labor was hard.

  • 1 Samuel 1:1 - There was a man from Ramathaim Zophim, from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah. He was the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
  • 2 Samuel 20:21 - That’s not the way things are. There is a man from the hill country of Ephraim named Sheba son of Bicri. He has rebelled against King David. Give me just this one man, and I will leave the city.” The woman said to Joab, “This very minute his head will be thrown over the wall to you!”
  • 1 Kings 11:11 - So the Lord said to Solomon, “Because you insist on doing these things and have not kept the covenantal rules I gave you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
  • 1 Kings 11:28 - Jeroboam was a talented man; when Solomon saw that the young man was an accomplished worker, he made him the leader of the work crew from the tribe of Joseph.
  • 1 Kings 12:2 - When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news, he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon and had been living ever since.
  • 2 Chronicles 13:6 - Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.
