Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

那时，约翰的门徒来见耶稣，说：“我们和法利赛人常常禁食，你的门徒却不禁食，这是为什么呢？”

那时，约翰的门徒来问耶稣：“我们和法利赛人常常禁食，为什么你的门徒不禁食呢？”

那时，约翰的门徒前来问耶稣：“为什么我们和法利赛人常常禁食，你的门徒却不禁食呢？”

随后，约翰的门徒们前来问耶稣：“为什么我们和法利赛人经常禁食，而你的门徒们却不禁食呢？”

那時，約翰的門徒來見耶穌，說：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒倒不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」

那時，約翰的門徒來見耶穌，說：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」

那時，約翰的門徒來見耶穌，說：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」

那時，約翰的門徒來問耶穌：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，為什麼你的門徒不禁食呢？」

那時，約翰的門徒前來問耶穌：“為甚麼我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食呢？”

那時約翰的門徒上前來見耶穌說：『我們和法利賽人都禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，為甚麼呢？』

隨後，約翰的門徒們前來問耶穌：「為什麼我們和法利賽人經常禁食，而你的門徒們卻不禁食呢？」

時、約翰之門徒至、曰、我與法利賽人數禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

約翰之門徒就耶穌曰、我與𠵽唎㘔人、往往禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

時約翰之門徒就耶穌曰、我儕與法利賽人、往往禁食、爾門徒不禁食、何也、

時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

Then John’s disciples came and asked him,“ How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day John’s disciples came. They said to Jesus,“ We and the Pharisees often go without eating. Why don’t your disciples go without eating?”

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John* came to Him, asking,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

Then John’s disciples came to Him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise[ the disciples] of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was[ taken] out of the new agreeth not with the old.And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.No man also having drunk old[ wine] straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men[ are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Then there arose a question between[ some] of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
