For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

Then He asked him,“ What is your name?” And he answered, saying,“ My name is Legion; for we are many.”

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?For we know Him who said,“ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again,“ The Lord will judge His people.”It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.But it has happened to them according to the true proverb:“ A dog returns to his own vomit,” and,“ a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,saying,“ If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.“ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?”They said to Him,“ He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons.”Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures:‘ The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?“ Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Now when the Pharisees heard it they said,“ This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.He who hates Me hates My Father also.If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.

Therefore the wisdom of God also said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt.Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!See! Your house is left to you desolate;for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say,‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Just as it is written:“ God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.”And David says:“ Let their table become a snare and a trap, A stumbling block and a recompense to them.Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and bow down their back always.”
